Wild weather and wild waves for the Aloha Manly Style Pro

blakethorntonthrowingbuckets.jpegAfter being rescheduled due to flat conditions in May, the Aloha Manly Style Pro is set to run this Sunday in building eight foot and offshore conditions at Curl Curl Beach. With ten to twelve foot waves and strong winds being the early forecast, Bacardi Surf Tour partner Swellnet has now downgraded the weather pattern for the weekend with ideal swell and winds now forecast for Sydney.

The rescheduled date of 5th June has opened the door for some tough competition to join the heat draw with the winner of the Triple Bull Cronulla Pro Blake Thornton confirmed in Heat 1. Also unavailable in May to compete but now heading to Curl Curl on Sunday will be Wollongong powerhouse Nick Squires, Dean Bowen, Drew Courtney, Shane Holmes and Teal Vanner.

Sitting in first position on the Bacardi Surf Tour Ratings Thornton showed at Cronulla he has the power game to win in big chunky waves. “Too many comps unfortunately get an average forecast and are run in marginal waves, this Sunday is looking really tasty,” said Thornton. “It keeps changing but it seems there is definitely going to be some solid swell with favourable winds which is going to level the playing field and make for some pretty exciting surfing with the strong field, I cant wait”.

With $1000 and 1000 ratings points awarded to the winner, the Inaugural event has attracted forty four surfers from all over Sydney, Newcastle, Central Coast and the South Coast. Central Coast’s Shane Holmes will be bringing plenty of confidence into the event after recently finishing runner-up to Taj Burrow in the WSL 1000 Komune Bali Pro. Holmes took down some big names at Keramas and will be looking to continue his good run of results at the Aloha Manly Style Pro. North Steyne’s Blake Levett will also be coming in hot after a second place finish in last weekends NSW Open Titles at Yamba.

Brazilian’s Heitor Alves and Krystian Kymerson will bring an international vibe to the event with both surfers able to score big above the lip. Kymerson will be looking to repeat his Cronulla performance where he won the G-Shock Wave of the Day for a huge front side alley-oop that scored a 9.33.

Curl Curl locals Matt Bemrose, Steve Ahrens, Brett Moore and Corey Ross will be hard to beat on their home break with conditions at Curl Curl normally tricky due to plenty of side and back wash in heavy waves.

Following a massive day on the beach competitors and members of Curl Curl, Freshwater, Queenscliff and North Steyne Boardriders will attend the Bacardi After Party at the Hotel Steyne for the crowning of the Inaugural Aloha Manly Style Pro Champion.

The three remaining Bacardi Surf Tour events will be held in September and October on Sydney’s Northern Beaches.

Each of the five events on the Bacardi Surf Tour will carry ratings points with the overall tour winner being decided on each surfers best four results. The tour winner will receive $2500 and prizes from Bacardi, G-Shock and Swellnet.

The 2016 Aloha Manly Style Pro is proudly supported by Bacardi, G-Shock, Swellnet and Hotel Steyne.

Pretty rare for Curly to handle swell of that size. It will be breaking a kilometre out to sea - there's a lot of sand out there.

Hoping for inside reforms and doubleups in the northern corner.

Wild wind blown soup with nothing like a clean face in sight. Also a large tree blocking the northern side of the access road so in bound traffic is travelling on the wrong side of the road. You have to feel a bit sorry for the organisers.....pick a beach that is surfable at least 350 days a year and you pick two duds in a row. I'm never going to the casino with Tim after this!
