2022 Election

Want to make friends in the LNP? Tolerate all types of corruption.
Want to make enemies? Support an ICAC.
I'm tipping Bridget Archer won't last long in the LNP. Bridget "Sports Rorts" McKenzie on the other hand has a bright future. She's bounced back quickly after not dobbing in Scumo, the man behind the sports rorts scandal.

getting a lot of praise for her efforts... good on her...
probably end up independent soon
another one... which is good by me...
anything that undermines the two majors is a positive
PM late notice press conference in 10 minutes.
What will it be? resignation, calling an election or another phoney promise of an ICAC.
I can't hardly wait.
Holy shit…..Scummo is taking a stand FOR corruption.
WTF?
https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/scott-morrison-defends-gladys-be...
He’s been off-world for a while now, sounds like he’s finally come untethered from his spaceship and drifting into the abyss of delusion. Catch ya carnt!
Yeah, nah.
That article talks about the ALP as if they’re not a bee’s dick less neoliberal than the LNP. If the ALP behaved in the manner the article suggests , there would be no need for independents.
I think we've found a common thread amongst normal people and the lunar right on this forum. Seems like everyone understands the current Federal Government are a pack of crooks. Hallelujah. Praise the Lord, let's break bread, smoke the peace pipe, and sing Kumbaya together around a fire.
BTW, yes there will be corruption in politics but they aren't all as bad as each other. Here's my take.
Palmer: What a shonk. He's just hijacking the election with a hundred million dollar ad campaign in an attempt to buy the government he wants. He will say and spend anything to keep Labor out of power.
One Nations: Just a pack of grifters. Whether it's going to the USA to get NRA cash, free planes, or just flat out ripping off candidates and supporters, Hanson runs a crooked party.
ALP: Needs to do better, but apart from their standard branch stacking, they've kept a relatively tidy ship recently. Helps being is Fed opposition though. Also helps when a couple of their old colleagues are in the pokie.
Greens: 20 + years in government at fed/state/ and local levels and by far the cleanest party in Australian politics. Consistently fighting for campaign finance reform, the root of much corruption.
Independents: Fuck yeah. I can't remember a time when any independent has been caught rorting, rooting, or handing out jobs for the boys. Great to see independents (and the Greens) sticking to the crooks. Zali Steggall and Andrew Wilkie are top shelf.
LNP: The most corrupt Federal govt in history and their state branches are not much better. There's a reason why this mob has spent 1000 days (and counting) avoiding bringing ICAC legislation to the table. Half the party would end up in jail. Anyone who thinks these dogs will clean up their act if re-elected is delusional
"they've kept a relatively tidy ship recently". if by keeping their mouth shut to avoid any discussion of their values or policy.. then yeah.. they are tidy.. and shallow as fuck.
Voices for Indi is an excellent model for independent success. Helen Haines and Cathy McGowan before her. A bloody great highlight in our democratic history.
bonza, I was just referring to corruption scandals. And I did use the term "relative" in relation to the LNP. It's not like Labor MPs are accepting million dollar "anonymous" donations. Scumo accepting that situation is a fucking joke.

Should we be rewarding them for that?
low bar
VL said “ .... ndependents: Fuck yeah. I can't remember a time when any independent has been caught rorting, rooting, or handing out jobs for the boys ....”
(1) who was that Democrat who (a) voted to give Howard the GST (b) went into defect to the ALP and (c) had an affair with Evans “rooting” in VL speak?
(2) Brian Harridine squeaky clean god-bother yet wielded undue ultra conservative Christian influence over government legislation.
(3) Fred Nile
...... but. in general more independents would be a good thing, Gillard was able to work with many.
An unmentioned benefit of voting for independents is the wayward hope that some in the ALP may start to ponder why their former voting base is looking elsewhere for satisfaction. The ALP has gotten far too self absorbed and they appear to be lost in the heady smell of their own farts, believing that they know better than the mass of stupid plebs from which they derive any and all legitimacy.
The ALP refuses to face the self reckoning they require to be again relevant as a political party. Whether this is through ordinary corruption by neoliberalism, the poisoning of the ideological well by woke cranks within their hierarchy, or a combination of both is hard to say.
They need a boot up the arse and depriving them of the oxygen of electoral validation is the key.
It’s a shame that the LNP has the opportunity to make hay whilst the shining sun of voter disgust with the ALP works in their favour. ALP and their shills blames the voters for this situation……and therein lies the heart of the problem.
Wow blowin,
For someone who follows politics so closely, you manage to get the wrong end of the stick soooooo regularly. Your problem is, you think your ideas are replicated across the country.
Independents are not a major threat to Labor. They are a massive threat to the LNP and I think Wilkie is the only independent who doesn't come from a formally rock solid LNP seat.
There's patterns in the way voters swing and Labor losing votes to independents is a very minor one. Over recent years the ALP has lost votes to the Greens big time. They also lost votes to the lunar right like Hanson and Palmer (you're most likely one of theses people). Labor have picked up plenty of voters from the LNP, people who have had a gutful of their corruption, lack of action on climate change, and incompetence. This has been balance out by the ALP losing sections of the Christian vote over SSM (particularly in the Western suburbs of Sydney)
But go ahead and tell us all that the ALP keep losing because they are fake left, globalists, who are too woke, who support cancel culture and cultural marxism (or whatever new catchphrase is popular with you and your fellow travellers).
Blah blah blah.
Yet more victim blaming by an ALP flunky.
Don’t believe me? Then maybe you will believe the undeniable reality of the history of Australian voters.
Here’s a bit of a giggle - when it was said that the ALP was disliked by the electorate more at the last election than anytime in a century, the reply came -“That’s a lie!!!!!!! The ALP was hated more a couple of times in the 30’s. Its only been EIGHTY FIVE YEARS since the Australian public has said such an unequivocal GET FUCKED to the ALP”.
Go ahead…..blame the electorate. Whatever you do don’t acknowledge the fact that it’s taken 15 freaking years for the ALP to even acknowledge that the millions of temporary workers in Australia weren’t all sunshine and roses for Australians. How long are the Australian people expected to wait before the ALP decides to acknowledge the detrimental effects and electoral rejection of their Big Australia policy?
I’m guessing a somewhere between “Never if they can help it” and “They don’t have a seat left in parliament”.
https://oldfactcheck.aap.com.au/claims/was-labors-primary-vote-at-this-y...
At the moment the ALP has this to offer- “We aren’t Scummo or Dutto”. They probably think that’s enough. It’s not.
You’ve just got to look at the ALP state governments privatising everything they can get their hands on to know the difference to the LNP is skin deep.
Perfect aim from Katharine Murphy.
https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2021/nov/25/scott-morrison-ro...
The Guardian's mangled use of acronyms makes me roar in anger.
It's ICAC, not Icac!
Perhaps they were referring to the involuntary bowel motion that occurred after they received a phonecall from Elizabeth Street.
In that case, and in keeping in with the times, perhaps it might be best abbreviated to i-Cac.
The thing is Stu, the Alp and the Lnp should be voting for an Icac.
I mean, the Afp, Asio and certainly the Abf are politically compromised despite the efforts of the Abc.
The Qld Cmc failed to find any wrongdoing by Mps but in my view they needed a sharper bunch of Qcs to really make an impact, maybe it'd be the same federally.
Maybe we should stop messing about and call in the Sas?
"Yet more victim blaming by an ALP flunky."
Victim blaming? WTF are you on about blowin? I just posted a straight out analysis of where the swinging voters generally go, and then poked fun at you.. Who the fuck is the victim here, and where exactly did I blame them?
You're just grabbing hold of buzz words and inserting them into sentences in a pathetic attempt to sound knowledgable. It's like you're trying to be Otto from a Fish Called Wanda.
Your place on the political spectrum is a truly bizarre mix of Socialist Alliance economic policy and One Nation racism and irrationality. Have a nice day anyway Comrade Pauline.
""they've kept a relatively tidy ship recently". if by keeping their mouth shut to avoid any discussion of their values or policy.. then yeah.. they are tidy.. and shallow as fuck."
yep
that sums it up
is this an acknowledge tactic for the left of politics?
or is this just what manifests when your political movement is suffering an identity crisis?
because we're now clearly seeing if from uncle elmer albo... after two election cycles of it from bill shorton charisma...
it was also cleary big joe's tactic in the US, so much so... and even clinton played it that way quite a bit too...
it just seems to now be an in house tactic, either through design or desperation...
corbyn to his credit went hard in an opposite direction, which also failed... but I suspect it was other forces that contributed to his failure
""It's not like Labor MPs are accepting million dollar "anonymous" donations"
Should we be rewarding them for that?
low bar"
seems so
that's all vicvocal's got....
clearly enough for the party faithful
Yep.... Federal ICAC now.... With teeth.
Scomo would have another Engadine Maccas moment at the mere thought of some of the stuff he has been up to being exposed.....
"The ALP refuses to face the self reckoning they require to be again relevant as a political party. Whether this is through ordinary corruption by neoliberalism, the poisoning of the ideological well by woke cranks within their hierarchy, or a combination of both is hard to say."
this!!
so so much!
despite many formal attempts at psuedo self reflection... it just doesn't seem to sink in...
there is gaping disconnect between their many disasterous election reviews and any meaningful self reckoning
it's for this reason, 'the left' more widely, seem well down the road of irredeemability...
they just cannot realign the beast, the obvious reasons are... 'ordinary corruption by neoliberalism, the poisoning of the ideological well by woke cranks within their hierarchy, or a combination of both is hard to say.'
...but it seems to run even deeper, or come from stronger forces.... the corrections needed are so bleeding obvious to any normal person... but no amount of inquiries and focus groups seems to penetrate the upper power gate keepers...
"...They need a boot up the arse and depriving them of the oxygen of electoral validation is the key.
It’s a shame that the LNP has the opportunity to make hay whilst the shining sun of voter disgust with the ALP works in their favour. ALP and their shills blames the voters for this situation……and therein lies the heart of the problem."
yep, and the moronic party faithful on here, get all bitter and twisted and condemn everyone except their useless party bretheran, like we are all enjoying this situation...
it's bizarre
the disconnect
really weird... worrying, and despairing... like a crack head mate, who no matter what you do and say... is just not ready to change...
"Your place on the political spectrum is a truly bizarre mix of Socialist Alliance economic policy and One Nation racism and irrationality. Have a nice day anyway Comrade Pauline."
and there it is...
that no idea disconnect
So how would you describe yourself Sypkan? Embittered former supporter of Labor when it had a soul, but now willing to have anything other than a soulless Labor Party?
Sure, it would be nice if Labor found its soul again, but they tried that at the last election with very good policy but an absolute charisma-free sellout with Shorten as leader, and Clive Palmer able to spend multiples more dollars than both the LNP and Labor combined, plus a steady stream of cheerleading from pretty much all mainstream media, plus a brain dead idea from someone to have a caravan of protest heading all the way to QLD Adani territory to tell Qld’ers how to vote. Qld’ers love southerners telling them how to vote.
Regardless of Labor’s apparent soullessness, wouldn’t you agree that in a choice between the only two groups that can form government, it would be better to see the end of the most corrupt and incompetent government since WWII, and probably a lot longer still?
Or do they need to become perfect, in your eyes, before you would commit to voting for them (even just by making sure you preferenced Labor second last to the LNP’s last?)
I’ve never truly made much sense of your posts, scattergun as they are, but are you or were you a ‘true believer’?
what is it 4 or 5 humourless posts in a row from sypkan this arvo? Boring. Losing your grip or is it too much?
"So how would you describe yourself Sypkan? Embittered former supporter of Labor when it had a soul, but now willing to have anything other than a soulless Labor Party?"
I certainly wouldn't say 'embittered'... more eternally disappointed...
and I also wouldn't say 'anything but'... but definitely happy to watch them flounder in their current form...
"...Sure, it would be nice if Labor found its soul again, but they tried that at the last election with very good policy but an absolute charisma-free sellout with Shorten as leader,"
is it really that hard to find one's soul again?
...especially when being the soulman of the two choices is your claim?
clearly it must be, when you've squandered if over such a long clearly debillitating period...
the party faithful see the last election as some big comeback... i don't, despite some good policy (5 years too late) ...their delivery, cluelessness, and cageyness around that policy, just showed how out of touch they really are...
still...
"...and Clive Palmer able to spend multiples more dollars than both the LNP and Labor combined, plus a steady stream of cheerleading from pretty much all mainstream media, "
this is the game, they know it, we all know it, and all they do is whinge about it... step up, or fuck off...
the fact they make such a big deal about clive palmer's influence, just shows their lack of respect for their voters more than anything...
once again...
"...plus a brain dead idea from someone to have a caravan of protest heading all the way to QLD Adani territory to tell Qld’ers how to vote. Qld’ers love southerners telling them how to vote."
well, we agree there... go bb... the other one...
this also just shows how out of touch 'the left' are with the electorate...
again...
(which is more so about the current climate of protesting and telling people what is good for them... the left needs to wake up to contemporary political context... they look like a bunch of 1990's 1960's throwbacks in 2020! ... the world has moved on...)
"...Regardless of Labor’s apparent soullessness, wouldn’t you agree that in a choice between the only two groups that can form government, it would be better to see the end of the most corrupt and incompetent government since WWII, and probably a lot longer still?"
yes and no... people are willing to take a hit ..if it means avoiding labor's 'other' agenda/ers...
"..Or do they need to become perfect, in your eyes, before you would commit to voting for them (even just by making sure you preferenced Labor second last to the LNP’s last?)"
certainly don't need to be perfect, but rewarding their current lip service desperation with not much else is a definite no deal
"...I’ve never truly made much sense of your posts, scattergun as they are, but are you or were you a ‘true believer’?"
I'm the son of a coal miner of the son of a coal miner... who contradictorally, has some pretty radical environmental tendencies... and does 'women's work' in the social services... I'm about as close to 'true believer' as a contemporary 'lefty' could possibly be...
before all that toxic shit engulfed the movement that is...
Constance B Gibson wrote:"I’ve never truly made much sense of your posts, scattergun as they are..."
Well, I'm glad we cleared that up?!
Hahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Anyway, here's a song...from a real true believer!
keep playing that card cunnie...
I know you get it... you must... you're not that dumb... it's just your role to deflect it all away....
again...
and again...
the question is why facto?
payed help?
sado- masochism?
in the contract?
ego?
serious question...
you're too smart to practice all this losing self abuse...
get on the bat phone
or is it about xi?
...and the -gy?
Cheers Sypkan. An entirely reasonable reply.
Totally get the disappointment. Anyone who lived through the Keating Hawke era would. May I respectfully suggest that those sort of genuine reformist ‘enlargers’ governments come along very rarely, probably only once in a lifetime. We’ve had ours. Therein lies an unfortunate need to get over it, although choosing to continue to fight the good fight can be done at the same time.
And when you talk about the Labor Party and their policies, and then bring in all this ‘woke bullshit’ stuff, are you conflating the Labor Party and ‘Teh Left’?
What particular policies are Labor currently putting up that are ‘woke’ in your mind?
I tend to steer clear of the term ‘woke’. It seems to have so many meanings, ironically rendering it meaningless. (If we all had superpowers, then nobody would! High philosophy from ‘The Incredibles’ that I have hung on to)
"...plus a brain dead idea from someone to have a caravan of protest heading all the way to QLD Adani territory to tell Qld’ers how to vote. Qld’ers love southerners telling them how to vote."
Is anyone else really hoping there's something like this that happens again? Doesn't matter which party makes the gaffe. It was high entertainment.
And I suppose, finally so as not to bore everyone, if Labor did regain their soul, become again the party of the workers (which would have to be re-defined to catch up with the modern workforce), and came out with policies that you thought aligned with that, and sloughed off every last bit of ‘wokedom’, however you define it, do you really think that they could be elected in the current political environment, with a bent msm, a misinformation super-highway of Facebook, a rabid right Fox News dictated by a Machiavellian Murdoch, and a shyster with billions of dollars in Clive Palmer. Do you really think a reformed Labor could win an election, with its heart and soul fully reclaimed?
And if not, are you seeking for Labor the purity that Gough Whitlam mocked with his ‘only the impotent are pure’ line?

Oh, so not hoping for that VJ.
But am enjoying watching the caboose come off ScoMo’s caravan of lies.
Here's the Australian Country Party for some of those values that an old-school ALP might have backed:
https://australiancountryparty.org.au/party-core-values/
There's also an Australian Federation of Minor Parties and Independents:
"We believe that -
The major political parties and Greens are not supportive of Australia's Sovereign Future and the interests of Australian citizens first..."
Wish my browser displayed their pages better. The sentiment is similar to that displayed here by quite a few of us. If only they could preference themselves...

Yes, in a landslide.
I loathe the term woke
but ya know, if ya embrace it and push it... then try and deny it and walk away from it when it becomes inconveniant... well, call me a child, but Im not gonna let that shit go...
I've got no idea of their current woke offerings batfink, but there were some 11th hour shockers last election...
it's more about a track record, an accumulation of the ridiculous, that's hard to cut loose from...
people remember this sort of shit...

and it seems to come from a very weird place
the fact no debate or justification will be entered into, just enforces a mood of aloofness, and...'who the hell is actually pushing this shit?

yep, don't see how they couldn't win
barely anyone actually likes morrison and what his government is doing...
it's more a reaction to the wishy-washyness of labor that keeps getting them in
Anyone remember the elderly parent visa proposal - just to voters of some groups? I wondered of the strain on health system, the people to be brought in having not put into it either. The opposite of immigration to provide a working population to support the already large BB generation as it's health needs become more acute.
Policy was poor.

I actually had a open mind to labor last election until that brainfart into the ridiculous came along
it so much didn't make sense it was mind blowing
and game over
"So outraged by marginal (in more cases, not even) policy given out-of-all-proportion corporate media clickbait coverage (coverage specifically tailored to you and your ilk!)??
Outrageous!
And then feedback-looped, spiralling into outrage upon outrage upon confected outrage...all based on clickbait stories designed and tailored specifically for that purpose...to YOUSE!
And regurgitated on here.
Fuck-a-duck!
Oh, and on the fake equivalence balance sheet, well, they're both the same, anyway...but of course!
ps and don't forget the meaningless US buzzwords. Just 'cos.
pps and US-style right old libertarianism! Is there a worse crock of ill-fitting, not-fit-for-Oz-purpose, absolute shite?"
actually cunnie... you're totally and unequivocally wrong...
again...
you see, the little grandma import business, didn't even make it to the corporate media mill and my 'ilk's' tailoring needs
because it barely got past a couple of macrobusiness articles and an outraged university professor or two... (my ilk?)
which kimda blew me away at the time
because the 'policy' was a disgrace... as labor had apparently been beavering away in the shadows (hiding), for two election cycles, with their 'revolutionary' 'plan' to bring down 'the big end of town', by taking away some tax scams from mum and dad retirees and 'tradies'...
and then squandered all these savings, on medical services for aged imports that had contributed nothing to the tax base
as I said, mindblowing in the ridiculous
not least because it undermined all that labor were selling at the time about being competent economic managers, and, it just simply made no sense...
mind blowingly dumb too it would seem
politically at a minimum

He caused direct harm to ordinary Australians with policies that were openly designed to let employers pay workers less and less money for doing the same job.
As Minister for Industrial Relation and then as Attorney General, he was an unashamed political dog on the chain of the corporate elite.
He still faces very credible accusations of rape and had his corporate mates bail him out to the tune of $1 million dollars for the court costs racked up trying to make sure evidence tabled in court didn’t get aired in public.
