I didn’t realise that there was originally 3 cranes, 1 is in the drink ocean side the other I’m not entirely sure but the remaining crane has been used in the cutting up process, all the pylons are now gone and a container , they have cut out a fair bit of the barge itself but still along way to go . Today it actually looks like the crane is starting to lean to one side and won’t be surprised if the crane falls off what’s left of the barge. The new marina in sanur is coming along , they are still going to build the marina at cennigan which now also has a full on pertamina servo now . Sanur also sporting a huge new shopping centre that stocks just about everything.
How was your trip to the Mentawais SF? or are you just staying in nusa lombongan?

Did a trip up the mentawi early in the trip and had a ball , bit of a mission to get there and just staying in tents on the beach, swell report said 1 meter swell but this place is the full magnet and it was well overhead. It was good for the first 4 days then picked up to 10-12 ft and semi strong NW which was onshore . Just kicking back at lembongan now, locals are pretty stoked that things are slowly picking up .
Nice, pity about the wind when a swell came. Are the locals still farming seaweed or gone back to hospitality and tourism?
ps expect a big SW swell on monday..maybe lacerations could be good.
Still farming with mixed results, seaweed grows best in cooler water and it can get to 19c in July August but water temperature is way above that at the moment. They are getting top dollar for the green weed , 32,000rp a kg and 7000rp for the more common brown variety. Its more successful in the channel around at cennigan because you haven’t got the wave action and boats with all the pollution that comes with them . The reefs have been given a bit of a break from mans footprint during covid although I’ve noticed fish seem scarce. More than half the businesses are still closed here , lots of places falling over and run down. Surfed lassos a few days ago , overhead with just 4 out until suddenly 5 different surf schools turned up with 40+ euro beginners, they sit in closer and just catch the whitewater. It’s a real circus and they are all wearing booties and riding soft top mals . A lot of euros stayed on lembongan during covid and got long term rental at rock bottom prices , not a bad place to be locked down with surfing, fishing and diving.
Good One SF
Thanks Supa ..great pics ..what a fkn Joke that is.
Somewhere in mentawi , twas a good start to the holiday and so good to be surfing reefs again.

Lush!!
The view from our house. The light is insane, and changes all the time.
These were all shot the same morning within about 2 hours.
Woah! Epic IB. Incredible scenes, and from the house, so lucky!
Very lucky. Very grateful.
Amazing scenes and from your house…epic.
Wow IB
Last photo SF, reeling down the line
(Edit: South Ments, supa?)
Cheers, guys. But it's the light that does the heavy lifting.
We've only lived in this house for two months, and every bloody day I'm amazed at what goes on.
Here's a few more:
And the cliche one
First one does it for me IB
Wow, yeah agree re that 1st one!
And that last captures the aerosols from the Hunga Tonga–Hunga Ha'apai eruption!
Hah, is that still a factor? Hadn't thought about that for ages.
Yep, it's stopped coming in monthly waves and more spread out now. Here..
Epic shots boys. IB those cloud formations are pretty special, like walls of white water rolling in. We don’t get that effect down this way too often. Thanks for sharing.
Lovely vista IB. Must be lovely to wake up to.
It is, zen. Very nice spot for your morning cuppa.
Gorgeous.
Could imagine a brazier in the colder months, cheeky little red and some warm conversation.
I like my view but it doesn't even come close to yours.
Very civilised.
wow, what's that body of water IB?
I love sleuthing and from those images I've basically found your address IB ;p. Looks so beautiful!! Still need to do a surf trip there.
FR, it’s Raglan Harbour. 33km2 of nooks and crannies.
Well done, Craig :-) Favourite pastime of mine, too.
I.B, im guessing you need to get changed three times a day for morning shill, lunchtime warmth then night time chill factor?
Not far off, gs.
Chilly winter dawn, with frost in sheltered spots, but by 7.30 the sun is pouring into the house and I can have breakfast with all doors open in a singlet.
This summer was just plain hot around the clock.
Is there much Trout fishing in NZ? none where i live, just tailer snapper sharks and gt's which are fun to catch but no trout fishing. I think ive lost my touch to trout fishing. Definitely with aim.
I didn't even know Raglan had a harbour!
spent an enjoyable hr sussing it out.
What's the tidal range there IB?
Great shots SF (I'm drooling) and IB, what a special place to call home , awesome.
Fucking fuck oath I.B.
Even if it doesn’t allude to it, your name makes alot more sense to me now!
You’ve got a killer location good sir!

3m on big tides. 100mio m3 of water in and out across the bar every tide cycle :-)

Lived in Island Bay, Wellington, for 20 years, and they were important years, so I've kept the name - for now at least.
Some snaps from a coastal walk we did the other day. Tortured sandstone.
Wow. Awesome Blackers. Thanks for sharing. Very raw!
Jeez there’s some talented camera folk and beautiful locations getting around.
Top work all round…!
In semi lockdown I'm finally sorting through a lifetime of photos and inspired by what Craig and Andy recently posted I thought why not.
We travel a fair bit and there has to be some crackers in the vaults.
Good if we follow the Swellnet tradition of not naming or being too obvious.
