Good move. The best camera is the one you have with you.
Speaking of walking the dog. Our old boy (12), slowing down, but still so sweet and happy.
Friendly looking old fella

And I haven't the faintest idea where it is - which makes it even better :-)
Thanks Seeds and IB. Was a special session. Just the 3 of us, not another surfer in sight. The odd sounds of gun shots from nearby was disconcerting though.
Sounds like there is a story there to tell ringo. And IB, that is a fantastic portrait of your old mate. Soulful eyes.
Stu posted a while back about his pooch being gormless with a monkey brain. Sums up our new lad perfectly. The old fella dotes on him though, and it's hard not to warm to his enthusiasm. One of the few times he has been still enough for a photo.
Dogs are wonderful. Life would be so much less without them.
Classic “I’ll do it my way” terrier ‘tude..
What a beautiful mutt IB. Lotta love in those eyes.
Our Choco Lab has well and truly cemented himself in our hearts now. Still, bottom of the pecking order though. The cats have him covered.
Edit: can never get enough of the dog pics.
Onya Bluey.
Awesome stuff. You can see the character in all those pooches.
Best thread on SN.
Good boy!
Nice doggie pics all around.
Our boy is snoring loudly now :-)
Agree Tubeshooter, awesome thread.
Blackers mentioned Maxy Walker, my gormless best friend. We got him as a rescue dog, he was already five years old. The first photo I saw of him I thought he was the coolest looking dog ever.
This is it:
But between agreeing to take him and picking him up, the previous owner gave him a haircut so when we rocked up this is what we were greeted with.
Seriously...what the hell is that??
Right now, Maxy's hair is long so thankfully he again looks cool - sort of a cross between Rob Machado and an ugh boot.
First thought in my head Stu. “I’m the dude! Dude.” Big Lebowski. Paraphrasing.
haha what a transformation. I like the first shot too.
Zens hound might enjoy the last pic though. Not that there's anything wrong with that ;)
That's a top notch trim job there, Stu. Poor pup!
A couple of our boy as a young hound, and one more recent:
Jeez, what a mud-fest Splendour is this year. I'm volunteering so managed to avoid the worst of it (via the service roads), but can't imagine what it must have been like for those punters who are camping for three days and had no escape.
Here's the entrance before and after they opened the gates yesterday:
This is the scene one hundred metres inside the gate (that's not water, it's liquid mud).
The network of roads had rubble to walk on, but a few took shortcuts off-trail.
The food area was surrounded by a moat.
You seriously couldn’t pay me to go to Splendour.
To borrow from Marc Sutherland I’d rather poke a mud crab up my arse with a burning stick.
Same here, Andy.
IB Tennis balls are very abrasive on Poochs teeth.

That is a un natural disaster really and will be lucky if that joint is re vegetated come next yr.
Parko would be outraged!
Splendour organisers seem to be taking a fair bit of unfair criticism….the amount of rain they had to contend with…millennium anger seems misdirected. You can't tame the weather.

Haha
Splendid without a blade of grass. Another example of foot traffic organisations acting like cattle. Will we sea gumboots for the punters with the ticket purchases or just higher ground in the future? Why wade in the water when you can pay to wade in mud?
Mud for one, mud for all.

There hasn’t really been that much rain over the past few days.

It's the 100% soil saturation that is the problem (right across the region). Only takes a small amount of rain to cause major problems. And will take weeks, if not months of dry weather for the water table to drop sufficiently to allow things to improve.
Absolutely Ben.
An ABC reporter the other day talked about torrential rain but it’s everything you said - the site being on floodplain/ reclaimed swamp and so right on the water table.

You may want to be careful stu or Max may end up like Chris.

Bloody hippy
This is Kelly when we got him two and a half years ago. With Kelly it's all about ear-to-weight ratio.
Ha! So cute Jono
Awesome Jono. looks a real character.

Funny that those with the largest ears are often the most selective in hearing. Great shot of your 2 garyg. Which names get used the most at yours, the real ones or the nicknames?
Just spent 3 days working in Fiordland, the far SW corner of NZ. This was taken from the helicopter flying back from the high alpine, looking west across Lake Te Anau into Middle Fiord.
Incredible part of the world IB.. I was fortunate enough to join a helicopter trip from Te Anau out across the Fiordland coast years ago, looking for waves (for Storm Surfers). Breathtakingly beautiful.
Sounds epic, Ben! There is lots of surf in Fiordland, but not a lot that's easy to access.
There's a lot of empty, wild country out there, aye! We flew around the highest peaks near the Homer Tunnel checking automatic weather stations, landing on razor sharp ridges. Flight home was through the western peaks and valleys, ducking in and out of gaps in the cloud, before following the rivers down to Lake Te Anau (while checking for fishing spots and deer, haha).
Sounds like you did the same trip with Hannibal that I did! Landed up on top of a glacier for a look around, then when we took off, he flew 'over the ledge' and into a steep dive, staring down into a couple of hundred metres vertical abyss - all planned at his end, but unanticipated at ours. Heart-in-the-mouth stuff.
Quite a few interesting waves around that region but accessibility isn't particularly convenient! We planned to surf between Milford Sound and Jackson Bay, but by the time the filming window was open, the seasonal storm track went quiet and we ended basing ourselves at Tuatapere, surfing a new spot just to the west (accessibility was terrible here, too).
Early morning Anglesea
NZ volcano scenery
Wow. Stunning IB. You will have the snow hounds drooling at that blank canvas.
Is that NI or SI IB?
North
In semi lockdown I'm finally sorting through a lifetime of photos and inspired by what Craig and Andy recently posted I thought why not.
We travel a fair bit and there has to be some crackers in the vaults.
Good if we follow the Swellnet tradition of not naming or being too obvious.
