Optimist wrote:This is for the young people who don’t know about the San Remo conference in 1920 and the birth of Palestine which is Israel.
In 1920 after WW1 the then League of Nations ( now the UN) carved up the old Ottoman Empire into 99% Arab and 1% Jewish states…
The Arabs were happy and signed off on it.
For the first time the land was named PALESTINE and became the state of Israel.
Israel IS Palestine.
They were to re settle there from Europe and finally return to their homeland.
This was protested by a few Islamic Arabs and Britain caused the re settlement to stall.
This caused a blockade of Jews coming home from europe and then exterminated by hitler later on. Cowardly Britain mainly responsible.
This san Remo declaration can never be overturned by any body including the current UN.
Israel know this hence the current settlements and claim to the West Bank.
It is all Israel’s land…..the Arabs have the other 99%.
Fact check this info if you like and share it especially among the young who are protesting about things they don’t understand.
Israel has been more than tolerant in trying to share their tiny 1% but with the rise of aggressive Islam it won’t be possible anymore.
From the river to the sea it’s ALL Israel and yes it should be free from its enemies.
Yep the West banks correct name is Judea and Samaria, Jews take their name after Judea its the centre of Jewish history and Jews have lived there for over 3,000 years as Jews and much longer as Israelite/hebrews and most scholars of history beleive they were Canaanites, hence why use Hebrew a Canannite language and Judaism developed out of an older Cannanite religion.
The land in the West bank is littered in remains of jewish burrial tombs remains of Jewish temples and other sites that predate Roman and Turkish/Arab colinisation and contains sights like the Cave of the patriarchs where they beleve Abraham was buried.(although no evidence exists that he was a real person)
You want to talk about colonisation and destruction of cultures, well when you are talking about the Middle east and North Africa, Arabs and Islam is it, most languages were replaced amd lost with Arabic, religions and culture replaced with Islam, there was even an islamic arab slave trade of Africans.
The problem for Jews and Israel is Islamic belief is once a land has becone under Islamic control it must always be under Islamic control, even if there was a so called two state solution, arabs would still be trying to destroy what remained of Israel, they will never be happy until its all Islamic land again.

GuySmiley. Hi mate.
Rub it in. And I don’t mean downstairs either.
I didn’t know you were a Bomber.
Too good , my Dads Army. We are broken . Go Pies. AW
Ha ha AW is a Pies supporter too.
It's always disappointing when your team loses or has a bad run or gets hit with injuries, but im just happy to have witnessed another premiership win last year some supporters have never seen their team win a premiership or haven't for decades.
And just the whole vibe and playing style under Craig McRae and then just witnessing Nick Daicos playing every week, still a good time/era to be a Pies fan.

Indo. Hi. Hope you and the fam are having a good time , together.
Again, I like what you just wrote, I share exactly those sentiments.
I think Craig McCrae has been great for Collinwood and overall football in general.
So much better than the Barassi, Malthouse style of coaches.
As Jordan De Goey stated early last year, Craig McCrae has been the best thing to ever happen to Collingwood .
All the best. Go Pies. AW
Bloody hate Collingwood inherently, but yeah, gotta begrudgingly agree with above. Great team, great coach and bloody Daicos'.. Unbelievable.
This current era would be the least hated out of all of them.....but their supporters however. hehe ;-)
And anyone that questions this being in a thread about religion obviously hasn't been to Melbourne in the middle of winter when footy seasons in full swing.
Great to see another comrade in GS with the Mighty Dons.
^^ way too much bad history with Collingwood and their supporters for me - Vic Park as a kid, at Windy Hill and the G. Swearing, being spat at and fists flown and that’s just from the women!! Every team have their nuff nuffs but Collingwood has way more. It’s always a pleasure to see them lose and especially so to the Bombers
haha gold GS!

Hey, hey, hang on there a moment.
I’ll have you know, we (Collingwood) are great inventors, we invented the ‘tooth - brush’, soon caught on.

Think Collingwood is at least one VFL club founded on religious identity. Irish Catholic. Don’t know about the others.
The suburb surrounding Vic Park a Mick infested slum – as the more well to do Melburnians would’ve then decried it. Cardinal Mannix and John Wren ruling the roost from high on the hill – as told in Power Without Glory.
I think St. Vincent’s, which now has a huge footprint, taking up almost an entire massive block on the edge of Collingwood/Fitzroy, was established by the Sisters of Charity in the late 1800s as a relatively tiny double frontage affair, with the specific intention of providing free health care for the poverty stricken Catholics living in the adjacent slums who were slaving in the garment factory sweat shops and barely surviving.
The Sisters are still hanging on in there, around the corner, on the same block, in a grand old house tucked away on Brunswick St.
More prevalent in the UK – at least it’s often said - cities forming clubs with sectarian roots. Liverpool, Everton/ City, United/Hearts, Hibs/Rangers, Celtic – cited as notable examples.
Sectarian chants celebrating old 'glories' now well re-established in Glasgow at Old Firm derbies.

Didn't know all that. Cheers @roker. Fascinating stuff.
Personal history with Victoria park. Played 1 little league game there at half time representing the Saints.(yep..all things religion).
Walked away with a best on ground and we beat the pies on their home deck...albeit we were only 10 years old.
Still feels great! hehe.
The bastard supporters were even jeering us little kids!!
^^ spot on Roker, thanks for jogging the memory of that great book
Classic SR. Well played. I trust you didn’t get spat on. Collingwood supporter so spent many a Satdy arvo in the Ryder Stand as a kid. Might’ve even have booed you off. Appears you deserved it.
haha. Honoured if you did @roker!

&pp=ygUPZ2FyeSBhYmxldHQgc25ySantamaria a great Carlton man GS. If memory serves. Stood in the same spot in the outer, with the same people, for decades. Until he died. Don’t know if that says anything about Carlton, or his politics - but I think it does speak to a disappearing idea of Australian egalitarianism.
Nailed it JF. And was lucky enough to meet God himself in the rooms after a Cats v Melbourne game out at Waverly. Used to get all their autographs as a kid. G.Ablett was the only player who ever actually took the time to stop, and chat for about 10mins to myself and my dad and sister, showing a genuine curiosity and interest about us, no ego at all, a completely humble fella. This was right in the middle of his prime, late 80s. Will never forget that and always try to...spread the word of God. ;-)
oh fk those videos are gold JF!
^^ some good comments fellas
@AW, are you sure you're a Pies fan? Intelligent, well read and travelled, socially and culturally aware, self-deprecating, I'm sorry you can't be a Pies fan!
@JellyFalter says, " .... Guy Smiley can say 'go bombers' without fear of being labelled as antisemitic.....

Ha, funny that, and ^^ made me recall a conversation with an old Jewish workmate about the very point of footy was its pointless and how people getting all worked up about footy was infinitely better than killing each other in the M.E.
@Roker, Of course Santamaria would have been in the outer at Princes Park with his minders being the ultra conservative christian man of the (catholic) workers after the ALP/DLP split in 1955. Santamaria orchestrated the split too right and in doing so took the Catholic vote to the DLP who always preferenced the Liberal Party thus ensuring decades of Liberal Govt's up to Whitlam. Santamaria, Mannix and every parish priest telling the dutiful catholics how to vote each election.
Santamaria also had a gig on TV each week to spread his bigotry. Somethings remain constant for FRWNJs
Of course the other thing to note about Carlton home grounds is the presence of former PM Robert Menzies who had a special parking bay in the members for his Bentley. Santamaria standing in the outer, Menzies seated in his Bentley in the members!
@southernraw, I was at the "G" the day God kicked 14 and Fish kicked 10, what a game but when it came to God or his son "the little master" I think Gary Jnr was the better player, not as showy but consistently brilliant.
Absolute gold @guysmiley.
That Menzies photo! R u kidding me!? I hope he honked the horn everytime the blues put one through the big sticks.
Haha agreed, AW seems more like a Bombers than that Collingwood rabble. Just goes to show that theres little shards of light in even the darkest places eh? hehe.
Ahh i remember that Geelong V Bombers game. Classic shootout. I was actually the biggest Fish frother as a grom. My parents organised through the club for him to call me for my 11th birthday and he did! Was the best moment of my life to that point and i remember riding my pushie a million miles an hour around the hood to go tell my friends afterwards. Met him a few years later in Adelaide and he remembered me from the phone chat. Lovely bloke and a giant!
Favourite Bomber was probably TD. Sheer class, guts and talent.
And while yep, Jr Ablett was incredible, i'm going to stick with God as the best....maybe ever player. Could just dominate a match and was so tough. Crazy DNA.
That Santamaria video is a cracker GS. Thought it was Rowan Dean for a sec. Plus ça change.
But my point was more in line with the one you were making in the paragraph above.
My memory says - and this is from reading the paper when he died, so could've been a hagiographic portrayal I guess - that Santamaria prided himself on being an anonymous figure at the footy. Just standing in his porkpie hat next to the other people that happened to turn up every week in the same spot in the outer. For him it was important that going to the footy was as close to an apolitical, secular and classless experience as is possible. Substitute ‘the footy’ or what going to the footy used to be like, for ‘the beach’ in Stu’s latest Saturday email. It’s gotta be preferable that such ‘neutral ground’ exists.
Dare I say it - and at the risk of outing myself as a typical unintelligent, unread, socially and culturally unaware Pies fan - B.A. was right on the facts then, and he’s right on the facts now, on some (and only some) of his criticisms of the public broadcaster.
And I also believe in God. Gary Ablett the elder. At least in his on field manifestation. A dark tale lurking behind that coke head vid.
For some strange reason that brilliant photo of Menzies reminds me of the time when Collingwood appointed the people's champion, Paul ‘Mad Dog Mahler’ Keating, as its number one ticket holder.
Aside from the odd little ‘slip of the tongue’ from Macalister and Maguire, and the occasional suggestion that cultural practices at the club weren’t quite evolving in line with societal expectations, gotta be the nadir of the club in my time. That and the time Kevin Rose compelled a clearly uncomfortable Nathan Buckley to go on the Footy Show with him, put on a Crown Casino cap, get down on his knees and beg that worthy and noble institution to bail the club out of the existential financial crisis it was then experiencing.
To be the Best player of All time , you needed to be at your best in the Finals .
Performing under pressure , is my gauge .
GOD was poor in more Finals , than he was brilliant .
Look at KB finals record , outstanding .
Then look at the King !
Carey won Premiership's 4 North and gets my vote as the GOAT !
Not the nicest Guy award !

That issue’s gathered some momentum since that article was written. The Manly players and the Pride jumper. And of course Israel Folau’s fine work in his volunteer work as Satan’s triage assistant.
If the Trump Supreme Court ever goes back the other way, maybe this dude, high school football coach Joseph Kennedy, might be a good candidate for an NRL/Super Rugby coaching gig.
Although I can’t remember the debate around Folau reaching such soaring heights as it did over Kennedy’s propensity to lead players in prayer on the 50 yard line.
“The constitution and the best of our traditions counsel mutual respect and tolerance, not censorship and suppression, for religious and nonreligious views alike,” Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote for the majority.
In a dissenting opinion, Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote that the decision “sets us further down a perilous path in forcing states to entangle themselves with religion”

9 goals and a Normie in a team that lost by 1 in the '89 granny is a pretty fair finals effort popdown.
But yeah, Dusty is one helluva player. Looking forward to seeing him in GC colours next year! :-P (is that sacrilege in this thread?)
Still put Dangerfield and McLeod somewhere near the top with that duo also.
This is how wars start!! haha

Yes, it’s true, 1965, uncle throws a Collingwood beanie into the bed a few days after I was born . Have been a Pie ever since, whole family and relatives all Geelong fans.
See, I differ from your general run of the mill Collingwood supporter, I have a ‘teeth-brush’. AW

Haha, AW is a mutant. I knew it.

Oh, and I think the correct pronunciation in Collingwood is 'Toof-Brush'.
AW
Teeth brush , very funny !
Saw GOD win the Norm , but played in 4 GF's , I think , and didn't fire in the others .
On his Day , none I have seen was more brilliant , but .....1 out of 4 , not my GOAT .
Dusty 3 norms , McLeod won 2 I think , not Dangerfield .
All mid fielders .
Carey , playing CHF , there is only 1 of those .
You could build a whole Game Plan around him , which the coach did , Pagan's Paddock .
Carey was Captain and very aggressive , made every team mate stand taller , as a result .
It won North GF's .
Royce Hart had help , Carey didn't need it .
McKernan played a blinder in a GF , thanks to Carey 2 imho .
Hudson and Lethal deserve a mention imo .
Fair enough @popdown re Ablett. That's a fair argument but still, in my eyes, he was the best.
Danger was probably unlucky not to win a Normie just behind Isaac Smith....but i'm glad Isaac won because i pocketed a decent little payday from a five dollar bet on him.
But Danger for me is still the most ferocious player i've ever seen play around the contested ball.
Was never sold on Carey. Dunno why. Saw plenty of him play. Probably the off field(and on field) stuff coloured that lens. I remember him smacking Nigel Smart in the head once at Footy Park and the sound of it was sickening....umpire just called play on.
Geez there's so many guns that have played the game. How good was Modra back in the day in the Adelaide forward line. Not a best ever player but fark, living in Sth Oz through that era, there was nothing, nothing bigger than Mods.
GODRA!!
Deserves his place in this thread.

Tubeshooter. Hi mate, hope ya well.
I’m definitely a genetic mutant, constantly diverging from my predisposed genetic footprint , ever evolving along the axis of my DNA helix, with bases picking up and dropping off traits, but as you’d know, it’s the survival of the fittest in a Sir Alfred Russel Wallace natural selection kind of way.
I’ll always be around, in my current human context and in the future stomachs of microbes when I’m just a bunch of humus. My genes will be never forgotten.
Genes are the most powerful entity on earth.
