So their is only one small trial by Pfizer and based on that ATAGI have given the green light for 5 -11 year olds . This is their link and their statement Vaccine effectiveness data from real world experience are not yet available for children aged 5-11 years but are expected in coming months. As of 6 December 2021, over 4.8 million children aged 5-11 years have received at least one dose of the paediatric Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in the United States, and over 1.4 million have received two doses.11 https://www.health.gov.au/sites/default/files/documents/2021/12/atagi-re.... Edit it hasn’t been trialed against omicron, which is supposed to be less virulent , so how does the risk and benefit stack up if its a weaker strain ?

Typical Scumo saying "we have to be careful on imposing our choices on others" at the end of his rant. It only works one way with this flog. Dog whistling to the anti-vax anti lockdown mob. Looking at Scumo's speech, It's clear he thinks only one side shouldn't impose their choices on others. What about the flog who was supposed to be isolating but went clubbing in Newcastle instead. His choices had massive consequences but you won't hear scumo saying we should make choices that consider other people's welfare. It's a nod and a wink to self centred fuckwits who only care about themselves. I fucking loathe that corrupt morally bankrupt dog. He's a middle management arsehole at best. "However, as there are limited safety data, full registration of the vaccine will only be given after extended safety monitoring, which will take several years".

Before Covid, the norm.

After collecting data, regulatory bodies assess vaccine safety and effectiveness before the vaccine is licensed. The whole process of vaccine development to licensure takes around 10 years.

How many children participated in the trial?
The initial part of Pfizer’s trial in children 5-11 years old included more than 2,200 individuals. About 1,500 children received the vaccine. About 700 children received the placebo. This pediatric trial was a little different from the adult’s trial in that this was not a one-to-one ratio. More kids received the vaccine than the placebo because Pfizer needed to test dosage. According to the company, its 10-microgram dosage worked best compared to its 20 and 30-microgram amounts. For perspective, adults received 30 micrograms in each of their shots.
How did the trial work?
Each of the children received two shots about three weeks apart. Clinicians followed most of the participants for two months after they received their second dose; some were followed longer.
“We don’t follow children for years after, but this was a good amount of time because from what we know from adults and adolescents 12-17 receiving the Pfizer vaccine, most adverse events are going to happen – usually – within the first week or within the first couple of months,” Dr. Vernon explained.
According to her, the FDA requested additional data from Pfizer. The company tested its vaccine on another 2,200 patients. Of that, about 1,600 children received the vaccine. They were followed for two weeks after their second dose.
Did anyone experience adverse side effects after receiving the vaccine?
“ CBS4 spoke with a Pfizer representative and confirmed there were few instances of side effects after children received the vaccine. The most common adverse reactions included fatigue, injection site reactions (swelling), and pain at the injection site. Another common side effect included headache.
“These resolved within a couple of days. Interestingly, fever was actually less in the adolescent group than what we see among adolescents and adults that received the Pfizer vaccine,” Dr. Vernon pointed out. “I always say, fever is not a bad thing. It means your immune system is working.”
According to the paperwork, there were 13 instances where children reported lymph node swelling. Each of the cases lasted less than two weeks. There was one case of elbow pain that resolved the next day. There was one case of tingling that lasted three days.
“Adverse events were very minimal,” Dr. Vernon explained. “That’s likely because we’re using a much smaller dose, which is pretty standard for pediatric populations. We use smaller doses than what we would give to our adults in our adolescents.”
Pfizer said there were no cases of anaphylaxis, severe allergic reaction, myocarditis or blood clots.
“When you open this up to everyone, we could start to see that, but I am very optimistic after reviewing the data and listening to the discussion,” Dr. Vernon said.”

https://cbs4indy.com/news/coronavirus/cbs4-digs-deeper-into-pfizers-clin...

The trial is smaller than ideal but in total, over the two trials, over 3000 children received two doses without a single serious side effect

With transmission in NSW & VIC through the roof surely people are questioning these jabs now.

Remember when they said it stops transmission and you only need 2 jabs?

You will have 4 in one year then 3 per year moving forward (if it doesn't get reduced to 3 months)

Views like yours, VicMorons & co are so far outdated. As the PM & NSW Deputy said, if you're scared wear a mask and don't go outside. Take responsibility for YOUR own health & don't EVER reply on big pharma injecting kids.

Scomo's recent covid comments are some of the best covid news I've heard in about 2yrs. I know it's opportunistic of him, that a fun Aussie summer of freedom feeds straight into his reelection prospects. But I really hope it works out well for Australia in that we're able to withstand an increase in case numbers with low hospitalisation and death rates, and without taking any steps backwards to the dark ages of lockdowns and restrictions. Really hope these vaccines work.

Yep as is well known and reguarly discussed in classes on vaccination, the Cutter incident was a tragedy that resulted in 10 deaths in the US in 1955. There is no justification for the carelessness that caused it, but given the billions of children who have been vaccinated since then, and the millions who would have died without vaccination, the evidence is massively and incontrovertibly in favour of vaccination. And to put that incident in context.

"In 1949, the new polio epidemic appeared and swept through selective population centers, leaving its most tragic sign: children with wheelchairs, crutches, leg braces, and deformed limbs. For children with polio in the late 1940s, the disease caused paralysis in 1 in 1,000 cases of children aged 5 to 9. The rest had only mild symptoms and developed immunities. In the 1952 season, of the 57,628 cases reported, 3,145 died and a shocking 21,269 experienced paralysis."

Yes, so you are happy to put up the illness and mortality figures for children and Covid?

And you are happy with the Clinical trials?

By the way. " 10 children died".

You forgot this bit:

The mistake produced 120,000 doses of polio vaccine that contained live polio virus. Of children who received the vaccine, 40,000 developed abortive poliomyelitis (a form of the disease that does not involve the central nervous system), 56 developed paralytic poliomyelitis—and of these, five children died from polio.[2] The exposures led to an epidemic of polio in the families and communities of the affected children, resulting in a further 113 people paralyzed and 5 deaths.[3]

@blindboy , do you seriously believe covid is as deadly for 5 -11 year olds as polio ? Or measles ? Or small pox ? I cant see the justification for this age group, especially now with omicron looking less and less virulent as the data comes in . If you believe its to protect the elderly then I’m afraid that your not paying attention to what’s happening around the world, breakthrough cases aren’t rare with omicron. mRNA may become the best thing since penicillin , but at the moment this new type of experimental vaccine is just that , an experiment . Australia is totally invested in mRNA , is that the smartest move ?

Aaron if you are unable to distinguish between an error in vaccine production producing 10 deaths and 56 cases of paralysis and an epidemic that killed over 300 and paralysed over 20,000 you are either exceptionally stupid or posting bullshit for ideological reasons.

100% that's the big problem and unfortunately i don't think the date is available

Lets put this in perspective 30.3 million known cases in USA (so could easily be a few times that if not ten times that number)

801K Covid deaths in the USA

And 771 deaths are under 18 years old.

You can bet the majority of those who died of Covid (or with Covid) that are under 18 had other more serious underlying health conditions and would have also most likely died if had gotten the flue or another common virus and many would have died of underlying conditions in same year.

On covid origins, I do recall someone in the SN forums strongly of view that research labs were very secure, well managed and high unlikely to have an accidental release in wuhan.

But now we have a leak that shows how the best laid plans can go wrong:

"Taiwan’s lab leak of COVID-19 took place at a BSL-3 lab, which mandates the use of personal protective equipment, biosafety cabinets, sustained directional airflow without recirculation, as well as self-closing and interlocked doors. By contrast, the gain-of-function experiments being conducted on coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology were done at much less secure BSL-2 labs."

Blowin's picture
Blowin's picture
Blowin Thursday, 16 Dec 2021 at 7:48pm

And here’s Australian case numbers by age to put the above fatality rates into perspective. Note : It’s counted as a covid death if the person dies within 28 days of a positive covid test. This means that with some of these deaths covid is not the primary or even a contributing cause of death. The numbers are hugely unreliable.

If there’s been one death in an age group and that death was primarily caused by a comorbidity then it can be rightfully stated that 100% of the relevant statistics for that age group are inaccurate.

Also as stated in a German study into Child covid illness, the effects on children are often so mild, often no symptoms at all, that it’s impossible to truly assess how many children have actually had the virus. So case rates could be much, much higher. As they could for all age groups really. Not many get tested if they’ve got no symptoms and it’s hard to determine how many people get the virus without showing symptoms because they don’t get tested….cause they’ve got no symptoms.

As covid spreads rapidly over
the next few months case numbers will rise dramatically and unvaccinated children will have a risk of serious illness and death. With high vaccination rates those numbers will be much lower as will the cases of long covid.
Vaccination will drastically reduce the total number of infections, reduce community transmission and help speed up the end of the pandemic.

If my 5yo was obese or had existing medical problems then I wouldn’t hesitate to get her vaccinated, as she is very healthy and active, I’m extremely hesitant and can not see the point. Kids that get covid and recover ( which the vast majority have ) then become part of herd immunity.
