Tunes
From Hey hey its Saturday, not quite Ron Jeremy and Jimmy Saville but Melbourne royalty in the backing band.
Yeah, that clip is gold! Bit scratchy, but.
And the Corpse Grinders!
Gotta love when cool weird shit sneaks into the mainstream. In any capacity.
Gives us all hope!
OI! OI! OI!!!
Some alternative Sex Ed from Vladimir Putin's favourite band.
And a mighty fine tribute......
Just heard this, a new release, and a “b-side “ at that! Brings to mind the eternal question, which is better, the original or the cover? Let’s hear your fave covers.
Fave covers? Great idea blackers.
I quite like this one....
Great band blackers saw them last year.
Melbourne Bitter
One of the best covers?
Jessi Colter (Waylon Jenning's better half). Killdozer.
First time as farce, then as tragedy...or some shit.
PJ & Bjork cover Stones
When I was a teenager, guys that looked like this were bombing trains and rolling kids for their sneakers... now they're making beautiful music.
Her godmother is Dolly Parton, she's got the chops and the guitar sound is crisp.
Fuck the Pain Away ~ repeat posting but I love this cover. Truly made it their own.
Good movie too.
~
Another band, another version:
Feed your head? Why not?
This one still grabs my attention after many years..
I'll pay that one blackers. Great stuff. Nick did a similar version but on piano for a while after Cash's was released.
Apparently Miley's a fan...
Helluva guitar player too.
Gotta be in the mood, I s'pose.
Top 40!
Top 40 and Aussie and worldwide! Oi!
After the Care Supply and Black Flag mash up, well...
Runners up to Killdozer in the band covers stakes for mine. This could get a run on JJJ? JJ at least?
A classic deconstructed and turned into something entirely different. (Not a bad writer either) Try "Just Kids"
That’s ace Blowfly, have heard many overs of that but that is a standout. That Patti has some set of pipes. And Facto, that Nouvelle Vague track is a treat.
To calm things down a bit here is Chris Knox via Yo la Tengo.
Frente & crowd do New Order.
Nice work Patrick, some good tunes. Keep em coming folks.
Michael Franti from a ways back.
From one of my favourite albums.
Henry Rollins does Wire.
Crust is morphing.
Yes Blackers, when Rollins was good.
Lost it after the Do It ep for mine.
Do it is a Pink Fairies cover too.
Sometimes it's hard to get the crust off
It's two songs rolled into one. The original version of one of them is
(click at your own peril)Al knows how to clean things up
His best cover? Chuck Berry!
Great album cover from Devo's Mark Mothersbaugh.
Choice!
And from the ridiculous to the sublime...
How do you take the piss and pay tribute at the samre time? Ask J Mascis>
Jr pals in melbourne
Gold, Blowfly, gold!
This is the rare occasion where i agree with both of you, awesome cover by one of my fav bands big Cure fan too...Patricks vid awesome to classic Aussie song.
IMHO you can hear a Cure influence in some really early Dino Jr stuff like this song of Lou's
Especially the start, drum and bass line even some of the guitar and then the Flanger effect at about 2:00 and how Lou sings here.
Fuck! How did I not hear about, let alone be at the show for that My Pal cover? I did see Joel sing it with The Drones at The Tote though. Pretty special.
I find The Cure fair to middling myself, Info. And ol' Lou's a bit of a fop.
Covers are a tricky business.
I'll not hear a bad word about Lou.
Magic Dirt original guitarist played on some of Lou's recordings.
I hear the influence ID
Didn't know Do It was a cover facto.... so his best song wasn't his song.
Um Facto it's not a cover, Lou is the bass player of Dino Jr he sings on the very odd Dino jr song, I'm a fan of some of his mid era seBADoh stuff but not really his Dino Jr songs bar that one.
It's the first song from the first Dino jr album, where they were still finding their sound as Lou and J transitioned from their previous hardcore band Deep wound's sound to a new expanded sound.
Point was you can hear some different influences in their first album and surprisingly the Cure were one of them, hence i guess why they covered a Cure song on their second album.
I love the cure, but i do like the singles albums more i find it hard to listen to their studio albums from start to finish and i saw them live once, my only stadium gig I've been too and man it was boring, especially sitting down and so far away from the stage.
Here is Dino Jr covering one of their old Deep Wound songs (lou is singing but they did originally have another singer, and J was on drums in deep wound, Lou or guitar)
Alright, time for some discussion on what yr all listening too. My iTunes inventory is getting a little stale so I'm up for some inspiration.
Currently loving The Drones' album "Havilah".. incredible songwriting and some of the best recorded guitars and drum I've heard in a long time. I'm a little late to the party with this album but it's on high rotation at the moment and will probably stay there a while. I've seen these guys live once (Fowlers, Adelaide) and fortunately they're incredible on stage too. Can't wait to see them again.
