Desert Storm surfboard
Sick GS, He told me mine would start production on Monday, he’s usually pretty quick , and didn’t indicate any delay. Only bummer is I have to pick it up in Perth.
Saw a 6'2 x 19 1/2 x 2 3/8 pop up for sale used - swallow tail - should I get it? I'm only 65kg - too much volume? Or just right for the big days? 19.5 seems wide for a step up but the width seems to work well in these? Might have to read back through this whole thread.
For sale In Tassie ?
Nah VIC. Biggest board I own is a 6'0 at the moment but keen to get something which would suit the bigger days here. Was thinking a new 6'2 or 6'3 but at 35/37L in the stock dimensions that's huge volume for me. Embrace it? Sounds like the boards turn and handle well for their size.
Just a quick DS fin comment.
Two surfs on my little 6'4 DS now. 5ft onshore yesterday with AM2 thruster. 3-4ft clean this morning with Captain Fin McCallum quad.
Night and day difference. Felt sluggish as a thruster, but totally came alive with the quads. Such a fun session.
For reference, my Ghost loves those AM2s, and my 6'10 DS loves quads.
Gilbert 2 3/8 or 5/8 ?
Gilbert embrace the volume for sure with a DS, it will still be responsive as you need but with exceptional paddle power...it's what it is designed for and:
I second IB's comment on quads for the win on the DS!!!!! I use Futures EA quads on my 6'6 and it goes unreal!!
Well spotted, 2 5/8 thick! 6'2 swallow tail DS, thruster though. Also tempted with 6'4 19 1/2 2 3/4 model. They sound perfect for the double overhead + stuff we get in VIC coast and be a good travel board.
Sounds like I might be better saving more, going custom to get the quad option? Read all 15 pages again and think I *need* one to fill the top end of the quiver and expand the realm of what I can surf
get the quad option.
I looking at the DS but am also interested in another of Webster's model the wacko maybe it's abit more versatile, anyone had a crack on the wacko model? Thinking around 6'2 or 6'4 as abit if an all-rounder
I have a 6'4" for sale , if anyone is interested .
I'm on Goldy .
Thought I would mention it here before I list it elsewhere .
How much are you asking?
Got any photos of condition?
if you dont know use imgur.com and post the forum link on here.
I will do it today .
In good nick no dings .
I moved to Bali just before Covid , and bought it for a step up . Back on the coast now , and I have recently had a health issue and getting a mid length type of board , so selling the DS to fund that .
I reckon $500 is a fair price ?
Soggydog i just spoke to Waine and he says boards were shaped last week and dropped off at the glassers today but due to Easter the glassy is busy, there maybe a few delays but 3-4 weeks max.
why didnt you get it sent to where you live? i chose full freight and it only cost another $90 from perth...i would have spent that on fuel.
New 9'6 DS on its way to me. Cant wait!
That's a serious board!
I saw that on Webby's insta. What a beauty.
Let us know how she goes, aye.
Not a D.S. but a bargain

Ordered one of Web's personal used 6'0 napalm models, just shy of 30L. Will be a VIC mini step up. Couldn't resist.. photos and ride report to come !
At risk of derailing the thread have many tried both the DS and napalm?
Hey GS, bit of an update on wait times. My deposit cleared on the 17th of March, so it looks like it’ll 6-8 weeks possibly 9 by the time it’s delivered. ( I had a board that took 3 weeks to deliver from Wayne before, around Easter time as well. The freight company uses rail to Perth I’m pretty sure).
Eagerly waiting for the message that it’s ready to go!
Was in the mainbreak carpark a few weeks ago on a solid swell, lots of Webster’s in the carpark, long and meaty, also dudes wearing inflation vests, yes I went and found somewhere a bit more manageable, but fuck it was crystal clear sky’s beautiful offshore and a solid swell. I’m not calling it size wise but it was big! The Sunday was sick too, it rained all day. If you remember that weekend(cyclone weekend. How could you not being in the thick of it)
Couple of nice additions to anyone’s quiver
Not very DeeEssy dimensions.
18 3/4, 2 1/2
Barrel boards.
fcuk, they look nice.
I want a baby brother 6'3" DS to match the 7'6" and 6'6".
Yep, even that 6'0 looks good.
I could see myself having a 5 board solely ds quiver ha ha
Trifecta
Ps, so much better you can see the photos now without having to click on the link

Do it!
Pretty much all I’ve been riding in 3-5ft lately.
This forum thread is my favourite, I’ve just been through a few pages for fin size info. Had a pretty good surf locally today, didn’t do the trains planes and automobiles mission, 3/4 through a “Game Changer” ( Ginger Joe Ginger beer 8% Vodka 30 ml, Krakken Rum 30ml, lime wedge) got the info I was looking for and the new DS is due Thursday. Stoked and glowing!
What you get ?
Yep, I too love this thread. Good to see people getting excited about a new board that's just different from all the others.
Two months now since my latest two (6'4 baby and 8'6 semi rhino) arrived, so I'll share some thoughts.
The 6'4 does exactly what I expected: makes tricky waves easier. That goes both for pitching takeoffs, hollow waves, and chop/bump. Where I surf gets lots of that. There's something about the way a board with forward vee almost feels its way intuitively into a wave and finds the path of least resistance. They don't feel as rearing to go and high-revving as a deeply concaved board (if that makes sense), but they get where they're going in a hurry. Smooth is fast.
The 6'4 goes much much better as a quad (for me). Feels heaps faster and can still be surfed hard.
The 8'6 was always going to be my least-surfed board. (If I were back on Madeira it would be a different story.) It's been a slow autumn for solid swells here, but I wanted to be prepared for when I get to surf it in anger, so took it out on a 4ft day to feel it out. And then another 4ft day, and then 3-4ft and a 4-6ft day etc etc.
It's a lot of surfboard, and you gotta plan things a little further in advance, spinning around, getting it up to paddle speed etc.
But fcuken hell, it's so much fun to ride this board on average days. Find the sweet spot (it's huge) and there's speed on tap coming off the bottom. Get your foot back on the tail and it can be driven through a roundhouse cuttie. I reckon it's been really good for my surfing, cause you can't cheat and turn flat off the fins like on a modern short/wide/fat shorty.
On the few decent (5-6ft) waves I've had, the feeling of power and excitement dropping in and sensing all that rail connect with the wave is intoxicating.

Yeah I think my next all rounder could be a 6'2 or 6'3.......these boards are just so good in all conditions you could definitely have a quiver of them and never be unhappy again!!!!
7’2” x 20 x 3 1/4...50L GF, FCSII
nice one IB
Got my 6'6 by 20" x 3 " 43litre DS on monday surfed it straight away at a mellowish left that has some rocky spots. Winds were straight offshore. Only got one wave before it got dark but fins hit the bottom on the dangerous end section..only minor scratches on two fins. Got to my feet easy enough didnt nosedive which is what other boards have been doing for me lately as i havent surfed much in the last two or three years. Felt like a solid board. i paddled for another wave but it backed off and i nearly went out with the lip as the board had momentum..i used to do those takeoffs deliberately but im not surfing my best at the moment.
bodyboarding has been easy for me but im so rusty on a surfboard.
Used EA fins which i love. im not yet surf fit even though i do 45 mins of gym weights and cycling and 100 situps a day might increase that to 500 throughout the day. and some core excersizing.
My board feels a bit heavy but im sure it will last.I paddled from bay rights over to sunnys left accross the rippy channel with ease. After that surf i lost 1kg down to 80 and my relatively new boardies are sliding off.Losing weight is expensive as you need to buy new wetties and new boardies etc.
Also ordered a rasta torus twin (with flax bio resin)which will suit my target weight of 75-70kg. Im leaving that one unused untill g-land (for small speedies and chickens and 20/20's )next year if we're allowed. With those two boards and shipping the cost is around $2500..aramex hold onto parcels too long so it was a long weight for me. 4 weeks to get glassed three or four weeks to arrive here.
Surf should be good a few times in the next few weeks so we will see.
Kalbarri doesnt really have a beachbreak to get get used to a new board but the bay is ok for that, rippy though.
@groundswell , how did you go with the cyclone a few weeks back , l noticed you weren’t posting for a bit and was wondering if you were ok
Hey SF yeah it was a gnarly situation somebodies tin roof about 200 metres away landed on my window and broke all the windows, hundreds of tiles are broken and gyprock ceiling is damaged pretty bad. we (my younger brother and I) were watching tv when it happened and were very lucky we werent killed.
it was a hell of a mess took us about a week to clean all the broken tiles etc off the ground outside my unit. The SES helped clear the roof and solar panels also waterproof our roof with tarps and sheets of corrogated plastic. Water still gets in if the rains heavy but its ok. We were lucky compared to some other people with walls falling in and esbestos fences and roofs missing...we are still cleaning up the mess.
We had no power for about a week or two and bought a genset to cool our fridge and power a few electrical goods. All the SES and police and others have been doing a great job around here.
Christ i reckon your over doing the fitness bit / a quarter of what your currently doing is ample
500 sit ups wtf for..
Duromine is not the answer.
@groundswell , sounds like you were very lucky , enjoy your new board mate , wont be long and you will be used to standing up again.
I hope so SF ive kooked a couple of waves. So looking forward to some proper waves and being able to do what i like on a wave.
Udo i might stick to 100 situps...before occys comeback he was doing 1000 situps a day to win the skins event and $60 000 richer..thats what got me interested in that.
I’d do 1000 sit ups a day to surf one wave like occs did that day.
But alas even if I did 1000 a day I’d still be a kook.... sigh.
GS get a template of a board and do do 10 to 20 popups a day and just pay attention where your feet land will help heaps.
Slow motion popups are OK also
good luck on the program GS.
I'll throw a different perspective in for regaining surf fitness.
keep your surf sessions short but try and get as many in as you can.
ie, get out before fatigue sets in.
keep it regular and keep them coming.
you don't get better at something by not doing it, so do it as often as you can.
Not a bad tip, Freeride. Injury seems to follow fatigue in many cases for myself.
Thanks Freeride ill tr to surf as often as possible.
Not what it was made for but I took my 6’10 DS out in 30-35 knot onshore 1-1.5ft Port Philip Bay waves this morning. Fun and it went well.
