~ Board Review Vids ~

the new DOMinator

looks great but how can they call it the Dominator 2 ...looks nothing like the original dominator.....more like a j.s black box 2

The new part of the DOM is the bump squashtail, along with single to double then Vee bottom.

"1 surf didnt gell with it....1 surf really ?"
You see this quite a bit on FB board selling adds now, often sold with new fins.
Ive had boards i didn't think much of first surf or two that end up being great boards, or tried a different set of fins and the board is completely different and just comes alive.
Or you see guys selling brand new boards saying, selling as too little or too much volume and they are boards even with volume dims.
Sure voulue dims aren't everything but they are a great indication combined with other design aspects on if the board will suit you volume wise.
I really think a lot of guys these days just have such little knowledge of boards and different design aspects that they basically just play some lucky dip type game.

For those among us that are a bit heavier, older, and not quite as brilliant on our surfboards as we wish we were, this guys surfboard reviews may be of interest:
If your more high performance then Noel Salas or wooly TV are good too.

Personally, I think purchasing on volume alone based on weight doesn’t take height & build into account enough. I recently sold a CI Rocket Wide that, at 6’0”, 37L, should have been on the money. But in most cases, the shorter the board, the less rail in the water when turning and the smaller the sweet spot for both feet.
I’m 6’2” & 80kg with long arms & legs and the Rocket felt ‘pitchy’ if my front foot particularly wasn’t exactly in the right position. These type of boards are recommended to be ridden a fair bit shorter than your height, but this particular sled felt uncomfortable most of the time. Going board shopping today!

I found that Rocket Wide had a very temperamental sweet spot too.

Mikey February's quiver.

I really enjoy this guys reviews:

He is pretty stoked and is perhaps an advanced intermediate (I think) and it's a pretty good gauge for non-pro surfers.

WTF Udo, is that a piss take or what, nose looks lethal

I think it would be safe to say, pay now but never expect a delivery

Not a board review as such, but Pat Rawson ran a live feed on Instagram this morning and has posted the full cut:

Cool Udo, gave me info about sharp eyes that I was looking for. Look very good.
Can vouch for LSD. Currently my LSD chubby chedda is my favourite board. Strangely it took me about 4 or 5 surfs before I clicked. Was really thinking I had forgotten how to surf and then all of a sudden it just worked. Have never had that happen before on a board, usually the first couple of surfs really set the stage. Don’t know why, could have been conditions, just me having a batch of kooky days etc, but that was my experience. Besides, great local shaper.

are you up on the North Coast now Batfink?

G’day FR. Nup, in Sydney today, heading south coast tomorrow for 4 days, really looking forward to it. Will be swell, just hoping the winds abate at some stage to provide something a bit clean.
My other location is north end of central coast, when I’m not holidaying somewhere. Hasn’t been much classic autumn conditions so far, so my trips up there have mainly revolved around work and green bin pickups. No end of gardens work to do, then I can get onto the house.

Those boards look sweet Udo. I can’t go near a wooden board, or wooden skin board. My wallet falls out and pays the shop owner before my brain knows what’s happened. Had a couple of good ‘uns, and a few I really shouldn’t have bought.

FR, by ‘great local shaper’ I meant east coast Aussie shaper, not implying that I live up there. Think he’s in Angourie isn’t he?
Speaking of which, one of those gumtree ads had a guy selling two boards, one a Rod Dalhberg which looked like a classic.

Beak nose, flatter rocker, chunky rails, squash tail option... don't get me wrong I wouldn't mind one but how is this similar to the ghost?

Same rocker, just naturally lower because they’re short.
