I think the thing to remember is although for most of us surfers international travel is important and if the doors opened tomorrow we would be booking our flights to Indonesia etc.
But for most of the population they wouldn't have that much interest going overseas at the moment especially older retired type travellers and familys.
For some perspective only 57% of Aussies have passports.
So i think for most Aussies they are happy to be in this protective bubble, so yeah 100% agree that the strong shut borders approach is popular, i personally cant see us being able to travel OS freely until 2023.

Yes great comments sypkan , for me it’s important to find the true origin and if it has escaped from a lab then the questions are many and its a can of worms that needs opening. Australia has one of these labs and same thing could happen here. If it has come naturally then more needs to be done about wet markets around the world , this needs to be done anyway but if it’s proven as the origin then no excuse for allowing them to continue in the current conditions governments allow. The way my thinking goes , if it was a natural cause then China has nothing to hide and immediate investigation would have been welcomed by the CCP . What would you be afraid off if you knew 100% that it didn’t come from your lab ? The worst case scenario is that it was manufactured in a lab and deliberately released to cause a collapse of economy and kaos throughout the world. Scientists all around the world are doing weird stuff fiddling with the genetics of viruses and bacteria. Some have a clear purpose and a beneficial end goal. Some have underpinning warfare related intents (offense and defence). Some are just fiddling because they can or to keep busy and win grants.

I wrote this back in November last year and as I stood by it then, I still stand by it now. I guess at present the exception is the Biden government maintaining their relatively hardline approach towards the CCP without necessarily being as vociferous as Trump. Nobody can convince me otherwise that this pandemic was as a result of some young lady getting stuck into a hearty bowl of bat soup. Millions dead, economies in tatters, lives ruined and the only country that has come out the other side smiling is China. Any attempt at getting to the bottom of how this virus manifested itself has been stymied at the source and been met with obfuscation at best and sabotage at worst. While their economy has cooled a little, it is still the only economy that has experienced month on month growth in the last year and a half contrasting with every other economy, developed or otherwise, contracting.

When I took the survey yesterday on what Australians think , in my age bracket 50 - 59 male 50 % said they wouldn’t get the AZ jab , 70 % said the would get the Pfizer jab and 30 % said neither jab . There is some distust for the AZ vaccine which I received yesterday . 24 hrs after the jab I'm experiencing mild common symptoms ( 2 out of 3 people get these )that were in the paperwork they gave me , slight headache , sore muscles ( in back ) and tiredness . Did what was recommended and had some Panadol and feel ok now . Spoke to female friend who had Pfizer, she is 45 yo nurse and had no side effects at all . Strange thing is she was told some people have reaction after 2nd dose of Pfizer and its the opposite for AZ . Blokes at work all bagged me for getting jab and said I was mad . Didn’t argue , its not a big deal to me but definitely is for some . Good luck over the coming weeks in Victoria , wonder how many are currently bailing out . ?

When I spoke to my Dr 3 months ago he rolled his eyes and said its all about money lol This guy advised me to get CBD oil for my bursitis in shoulder , he said you can get government script and pay $180 or go to Nimbin and pay $70 at hemp emphorian , I took second option and it fixed me up in about 3 -4 weeks with help from osteopath.
@amb , from everything I’ve looked at as far as AZ is concerned it hasn’t done that well against the South African strain , with UK and Indian strains AZ is as good as Pfizer. I think eventually Australia will revert to solely Pfizer or Moderna as it can be fine tuned as covid mutates and we will be eventually making it here , everyone will probably need annual boosters . By now, every single aged care resident and worker in Australia should have had both jabs, it should have been an absolute non-negotiable to prioritise getting it into every centre ASAP, as that is where the significant majority of deaths occured last year. And that's what we're meant to prevent here, deaths, not just the world-obsessed case numbers. There are thousands of residents that haven't even had one jab. Unacceptable.
That aside, it's time to just let those who want a jab get one. The over 50's have had long enough to get their first jab, time to open it up to all, at least as a minimum in Victoria, as for whatever fucking reason we just can't manage covid. Then once we're comfortable that everyone's been given a crack at getting their jab, we end any thought of using lockdowns. Those who don't wanna get the jab, that's fine they can take their chances if they catch it.
Unfortunately due to slow roll-out, this winter is cooked for Victoria, but that should be the plan ahead.

I was a little shocked at Alan Joyce (CEO Qantas) announcement that international travelers will be required to have a covid 19 vaccination in order to travel on Qantas flights . The government wanted to have mandatory vaccination but after the bumbling of its release ( it was painful to watch the delivery of that announcement ) they withdrew the mandatory part but it seems Qantas and other business may demand a vaccination in order to use their services. I’m not anti vaccine by any means I just don’t trust this government or a vaccine that has been rushed through. A jab followed by another jab followed by yearly jabs doesn’t sit well with me as I have never had a flu shot or the flu for more than 20 years. Plus I don’t want to give this shot to my healthy 4 year old daughter. She is up to date with all her vaccinations but this covid vaccine is new and not being around for decades like the others. Tuberculosis remains the number one as far diseases go and you don’t need proof of vaccination to travel so what is going on ?
