Just from a layman point of view it seems silly as the vaccines generally have also shown a prevention of spread of the virus so if it was a factor the risk would already be greatly reduced, and then off course its not realistic to not have vaccines and just say let it rip, and i would have expected logic would say with the much higher number of cases and longer the virus does the rounds the more chance the virus would to mutate anyway.

This is all documented indo have a look . If HCQ and ivermectin were allowed to be proved as effective treatment then under US law the current vaccines couldn’t be rolled out as a emergency response. Drugs like remdesivir had minimal trials and Fauci gave the green light for it to be used as treatment , it was approved as a emergency response. $3000+ USD per treatment and Australian government gave it the ok too but not once your on a respirator. Sorry it still doesn't add up, even if we believe governments don't care about their people, one thing that cant be denied in a democracy is they care about what the people think, they 100% care about appearing successful and care about getting re-elected.
If any government could gain a real advantage with these treatments for their people they would, but the reality is all the trials have shown mixed results even if it works to some extent (which it may), it's clearly not some magic cure.
BTW. I dont know how much is needed per treatment but it seems a standard pack of 4 ivermectin tablets cost $22-$35AUD so even this is the minimum amount needed there clearly would still be a lot of money to be made.

whilst the guy was very careful with his words and pretty much managed to explain it all away (the funding bit anyway, ...cooked up a story you might say...)
no matter how you look at it, the guy knew exactly what was going on, and he knew of the nature of the collaborations between american scientists and the wuhan lab. he also knew that that research had been shut down in the US due to safety concerns, ...their answer to that? ....his answer to that? ...move the research to a country without the much needed checks and balances, ...a country with no transparency whatsoever...
he can split hairs over the exact stream of funding all his wants, at the end of the day, the guy is guilty of gross negligence and recklessness at a minimum
funny reading the comments on a nyt post that ran parts of that video, the parts where faucci says rand paul is wrong...
the comments almost 100% denied faucci had anything to do with 'gain of function' research. and nearly all went on to character assasinate rand paul... a very familiar pattern... tediously familiar...
now rand paul seems a bit of a tool, but I really don't care if a guy is a tool or not if they have something worthwhile to say... and it seems this time he does... unfortunatly the contemporary MO of certain folk doesn't allow for such open mindedness...

I find these developments most concerming. these examples show the scary partisanship that has developed where people are totally closed to anything that challenges their reality. nyt readers are a pretty high calibre cohort one can assume. a well read, well educated cohort, who should have a hunger for the reality of a situation. and who constantly accuse their opposition of everything they are now displaying here...
as many have recently suggested, how can we possibly find solutions to complex problems if we cannot agree on the facts?
well from my perspective, both sides have gone so far down this selective facts rabbit hole we are now entering really dangerous territory...
it's well past time media and politicians started doing their jobs. which is reporting and working in reality. not only working within their own twisted realm of PR, where every incident is a partisan damage control distortion of reality!

Yesterday, however, I heard from a friend now living in Singapore. Keen Vax supporter. He and his wife got very sick after their second Moderna shots, and after 3 weeks his wife is still suffering extreme vertigo and nausea. Not functioning at all. In his words, "a shadow of her normal self".

So to compare with your figures, covid gives you 3.7 million UK hospitalisations with the same 36 mil.

@shoredump , I’m not anti vax and will eventually get the jab in order to travel . Its good to know all the facts and our government and media tell us little snippets of information . Personally the virus doesn’t scare me and if i were to contact it i have faith in the available treatments more so than the vaccines . Unfortunately if i were to contract covid and survive they wouldn’t let me on a plane even if i have antibodies and T cell immunity. Now that sux .
Yeah true, plus there’s loads more asym cases throwing my numbers out even further. For me still, seeing covid run amok through some countries, and seeing the mutations, I can’t see ignoring the vaccine as the better option. We locked down for it, we got it, it just seems the next logical step

I was a little shocked at Alan Joyce (CEO Qantas) announcement that international travelers will be required to have a covid 19 vaccination in order to travel on Qantas flights . The government wanted to have mandatory vaccination but after the bumbling of its release ( it was painful to watch the delivery of that announcement ) they withdrew the mandatory part but it seems Qantas and other business may demand a vaccination in order to use their services. I’m not anti vaccine by any means I just don’t trust this government or a vaccine that has been rushed through. A jab followed by another jab followed by yearly jabs doesn’t sit well with me as I have never had a flu shot or the flu for more than 20 years. Plus I don’t want to give this shot to my healthy 4 year old daughter. She is up to date with all her vaccinations but this covid vaccine is new and not being around for decades like the others. Tuberculosis remains the number one as far diseases go and you don’t need proof of vaccination to travel so what is going on ?
