Recap

A poor end to the year with no surfable swell and average winds.

This weekend and next week (Jan 1 - 6)

The weekend will start poor with the swell remaining tiny though some new, mid-period S/SW swell is due to build into the afternoon, peaking Sunday.

As the swell builds tomorrow afternoon conditions will be poor owing to strong sea breezes so focus on Sunday.

The source of the mid-period swell is a broad but weak frontal progression that's pushing up towards and then under us today.

Size wise it'll be weak but peaking Sunday to 3-5ft across the south magnets, 1ft to 1.5ft across Mandurah and tiny in Perth.

Winds look better for Sunday morning now and more SE-E/SE, moderate in strength, creating good conditions. Afternoon sea breezes will be strong so surf before lunch.

A slight drop in swell is due into Monday along with fresh morning SE winds and strong afternoon sea breezes.

A reinforcing pulse of slightly better though still mid-period S/SW swell is due Tuesday, produced by a trailing low generating a better fetch of W/SW winds but on the edge of our swell window.

Size wise it looks a touch better than Sunday's though less consistent and coming in at 4-5ft and peaking through the day. Mandurah will remain tiny along with Perth.

Conditions won't be as favourable on Tuesday unfortunately with a strong S/SE morning breeze, becoming less favourable into the afternoon.

Wednesday should offer weaker SE winds as the swell eases from the 4ft range on the sets across the South West.

Unfortunately as stated in the last update, the longer term outlook remains void of any major developments with a polar low that's due to form south-west of us next week looking very weak and average.

Therefore try and work around Sunday's clean conditions and the less favourable winds on Tuesday. Have a great New Year!
