Recap
Our strong W/SW groundswell from Wednesday afternoon held well into yesterday morning with generally clean conditions and 3ft sets inside the gulf, a slower 3-4ft across Middleton.
This morning the swell is all but gone on the Mid Coast and strengthening north winds are favouring the South Coast magnets.
This weekend and next week (Aug 3 - 8)
These notes will be brief today as Steve covers the Olympic surfing event.
Tomorrow looks to start a little slow, but into the afternoon, our new pulse of moderate sized W/SW swell is due.
This was generated by a weak trailing frontal system on the back of the storm linked to yesterday’s energy.
It’ll be very west and should kick to 2ft+ on the Mid Coast tomorrow afternoon, easing from a similar size on Sunday while the South Coast looks to come in 3ft on the sets but inconsistent.
Local winds look favourable for both coasts tomorrow, light, local offshore ahead of weak sea breezes, similar Sunday but with winds tending variable on the Mid and E/NE-NE down South.
All in all a great weekend of surf.
A bit less size is due into Monday though the Mid should still be a slow 1-2ft along with local offshore tending weak onshore winds (NE tending NW on the Mid).
Overnight Monday and more so Tuesday, a fun pulse of SW swell is due, produced by a slow moving polar low on the polar shelf, south-southwest of Western Australia today and tomorrow.
This should kick the South Coast to 3ft+ across Middleton but with tiny waves inside the gulf and N/NW tending NW winds will favour the Victor region.
From Wednesday onwards, the swell looks to eb and pulse from the west, thanks to mid-latitude frontal systems moving in from the Indian Ocean, under the country.
There’s no major strength to them until mid-late week which should then result in some better, moderate + sized energy from Friday into next weekend along with workable winds. More on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
