Recap

Today’s Forecaster Notes are brought to you by Rip Curl

This week and weekend (May 30 - Jun 4)

The coming period remains slow thanks to the progression of zonal frontal systems across and under us.

There should still be small 2ft sets out of the south in the mix tomorrow with favourable winds for the northern corners, generated by a frontal system that’s pushing up past the south-east corner of the state today.

Other than that, we look towards Friday, when a similar but stronger and broader system than today’s pushes past us on Thursday. A great fetch of gale to severe-gale W/SW-SW winds should produce a fun S’ly groundswell Friday to 3ft on the south magnets in the morning, easing back through the day. Conditions will be great for the south magnets again with winds from the north-western quadrant, but get in early for the size.

There’ll still be fun 2ft sets in the mix Saturday but a trough looks to bring a S/SE change, creating poor conditions.

Longer term the outlook is more promising with mid-latitude instability likely to generate some fun swell out of the eastern quadrant through next week. More on this Wednesday.
