Best Days: Desperate surfers south magnets tomorrow AM, early Saturday southern corners

Recap

Tiny surf yesterday and similar today.

Today’s Forecaster Notes are brought to you by Rip Curl

This week and weekend (Jan 3 - 6)

A small spike in S'ly swell is still due tomorrow morning, produced by a strong storm that's currently passing under us. South magnets should see 2ft sets but winds look dicey and generally onshore out of the E/NE, with some regions possibly offering small pockets of variable breezes at dawn.

We then look at our north-east windswell event into later Friday and more so Saturday and we've got an upgrade in the expected size.

A good broad fetch of strong N/NE winds are forecast to develop down the southern NSW coast and project closer to us Friday evening.

This should kick up a good 2-3ft of N/NE windswell for Saturday morning, easing into the afternoon as a surface trough brings a southerly change and cuts off the N/NE infeed.

Winds will be accordingly S/SE early Saturday, favouring southern corners before tending E/SE mid-morning and back to the NE through the afternoon. So surf early for the best conditions.

Sunday looks tiny though clean again with a leftover 1-1.5ft of NE swell.

Unfortunately the longer term outlook remains poor with just a small weak N/NE windswell on the cards for Tuesday. More on this Friday.
