Watch: Tim Bonython // Out to Sea
It was the last swell of an epic East Coast winter, the best winter anyone could remember, and Tim Bonython was on hand for a two day blast.
Tim's packaged it into a 25-minute clip - a "long short" - that takes a few diversions along the way.
Heads up for Nathan Bartlett's late drop at 19:55 and double-barrel redemption at 22:20.

I wonder how cold, cold is for Tim as he has been to Shippies I would have thought Tassie would be heaps colder in the water (I know Melbourne is). Air temp can be chilli on the south coast particularly with that wind. Real secret spot !?!
Yeah hardly a secret anymore, but we'll leave it at that. Locals have been surfing it since the '80s, it didn't get exposed till around the mid to late '90s though.
Dylan Longbottom comes across as a good bloke.
He makes some nice looking boards ... anyone got a link to the choomba(?) model?
Check his insta - dylanshapes
Looks like a hard wave to tame, particularly that first day. Shifts around and each wave is unique. Day two looked the goods, and some good unintentional bodyboarding at 23:50.
Hey Tim
Long time viewer, first time comment.
Absolutely love your work!
You reckon you could do some movies in real speed time and include the paddle in take-offs (which you do often). Just everyone does slow-mo nowadays and to be frank....a little over it.
Great work, thanks Tim!
Good stuff, pumping east coast-again. Interesting to see its just as busy there as here these days...
I,d like to know if the regulations for skis are different over that side? no tow surfing or ski driving over 5 knots within 200m of water users (swimmers or surfers that are paddling ) doesnt seem to be applied in any of these clips , Ours and now this one, all good till someone gets run over I guess?
I imagine if the paddle guys had any issues they’d let the jokers on the skis know. They’re probably happy to have them out there though since they’re so far from shore.
Been some guys on skis towing at a semi secret spot round here. I haven’t crossed paths with them but I don’t think I’d be happy about it.
@ 12m +/- and agin @24m +/- - Ollie Dorsett - Stu - that's got to be a story?
Or has it been written and I've missed it? A guy with a prosthetic leg charging slabs, that the averg - I saw some pics of him at Fairy Bower earlier this winter. I'm very curious to know more?
Great film Tim > nice friendly vibe to the line-up, as articulated by Dylan, maybe if we all keep talking about and showing films of friendly line-ups it will self-propagate? RR
Love your work, as always.
And like above, a little less slow-mo and some more real-time action,...please? maybe.
I started feeling a bit queasy around the 14 min mark.... dunno, maybe having a moment.
Anyway,
Gotta love how the sun gives it an extra touch of special.
The other side of Christmas I'd like to see a comparative video of Moffats Reef. It's pretty similar but maybe less pinch on the Left & more Rights - oh & its warm & a only a 12min paddle off the carpark. Few Spring opportunities though.

lotta swell chasers out that day
I liked the bit that had a guy take off on his wave.
But the rest was nice Mr Bonython
