Watch: Elliot Paerata Reid // MEKE
Elliot Paerata Reid hails from Piha, New Zealand, and has built an impressive reputation negotiating heavy water. The first half of this clip showcases last year's infamous Indonesian swell where Nias delivered bulbous below-sea-level caverns.

Did I just see what happened at 1:45 and again at 1:56 ? Yes I did. Hessooss Christos. Talent....... !!!!
Yep, channeling Dane Reynolds there aye. Unfortunately for his Pro tour aspirations there are probably about 1000 other surfers in the world surfing at that level at the moment. Almost impossible to qualify from NZ. My suggestion to him would be to move to Hawaii.
My suggestion would be a have a crack and don't read the negative comments. Some great surfing in there !
He's been based on the gold coast for a while now, watched him as a grom back home in the Mount and he's got the support and drive to do it. Ric just qualified and Stairmand is going to give it a shot this year. It's no harder than qualifying from anywhere else if you rock up to the events and know your strengths. Sure he might not get given the marginal scores that some big market surfers tend to get gifted, but he's got everything else he needs.
My suggestion is to be home for sheep crutching season
He’s ripping no doubt. Good enough to be on the tour if he has the competitive nous. Heck, I’d love to see him on the tour. My point is that it’s damn hard to qualify from NZ, so he might need to think outside of the box. Ie move to Hawaii or Australia.
As above, I believe he's based in GC now.
On one of those wipeouts he actually knocked himself out. Sucked over the falls in the lip. Very heavy water.
ripping bro! sick style and flow. if you are good enough you'll qualify from wherever you are.
That was sick, what a ripper!
Yep very talented. Geez Nias has changed completely since the Tsunami. My memory of it years ago was a longer, wallier, wave or then again I could have dementia (hope its the former).
Kid rips and have actually seen him surf live a few times as well. Unfortunately if you're looking to assess his chances on the 'QS then it'd be better to see his ability to put in two quick turns and an air reverse in 2ft onshore closeouts than what he does in quality heavy water.
Good luck to him and Billy Stairmand this year, be great to see a few more Kiwi's on tour.
3D 360 at around 1 min 47 sec on this reel would be difficult to make repeatedly.
