Wednesday 21st August 2024 – Manly, Sydney. Launched at Guzman y Gomez Dee Why, the 2024 SURFTAG SERIES will see over five hundred surfers represent their local boardriding club in five divisions: Grommets, Juniors, Men’s, Women’s and Masters. The Series will offer $25,000 prize money with Northern Beaches Club Long Reef looking to secure their third straight SURFTAG SERIES win.

The GYG JUNIOR SURFTAG will be the first of three SURFTAG events being held on Sydney’s Northern Beaches with twenty Boardriding Clubs competing in Under 14 - Grommets and Under 18 - Junior Divisions at Curl Curl and Dee Why Beaches. Club’s will be represented by five surfers who each catch two waves in relay style and return to the beach to tag their teams next surfer.

Manly based clubs North Steyne (Under 18’s) and Queenscliff (Under 14’s) will be looking to defend their Titles with Queenscliff’s Hunter Sutcliffe surfing in both QBC’s Under 14 and Under 18 teams, “We pretty much have the same team as last year in the 14s so hopefully we can get the win again”, Sutcliffe said. “It’s such a fun day as everyone from the club comes down to support and cheer us on”.

North Steyne’s Sol Gruendling is back surfing after spending two months out of the water with a knee injury, “It’s good to be back surfing and my knee is feeling ok so I should be right to represent North Steyne”, Gruendling said. “The boys have been doing a few training runs and putting in the hours so hopefully we can back up last year’s win”.

Long Reef Boardriders have won the last two SURFTAG SERIES finishing ahead of North Narrabeen and Queenscliff in 2022 and 2023. Last year Long Reef won the Women’s Division, finished second in the Juniors, third in both the Masters and Grommets and seventh in the Men’s event.
