The Hawaiian Pro finished today with John John Florence victorious in a close finish over Frederico Morais. In fact the two tied with John John winning by countback, decided by the highest individual wave of the final.

There's now just two QS competitions left but ostensibly only one that'll have any bearing on the final QS rankings - the upcoming Vans World Cup at Sunset, which is a QS10,000.

Following Haleiwa the top 5 of the QS is comprised of the same surfers as before, yet the order is rejigged. Connor O'Leary now leads with Joan Duru second, Kanoa Igarishi third, Leo Fioravanti fouth, and Ethan Ewing fifth. As has already been established, each of these surfers are near certainties for 2017 CT qualification.

Big winners after Haleiwa are Jeremy Flores who jumped two spots and can almost be counted amongst the above surfers as a sure thing for 2017. Almost.

Frederico Morais is the big mover jumping 19 places following his second place at Haleiwa. Morais tied with winner John John Florence for first place, the winner being decided by countback. If the win went Morais' way he would've logged an extra 2,000 points and jumped another two places.

As it is, second place puts him right on the bubble. He's already registered his enthusiasm for Sunset: "I love Sunset, it’s a really good wave. I've had fun there and I guess I have nothing to lose."

If Morais misses the cut by less than 2,000 points the countback is sure to haunt him.

Two other surfers on the bubble, Ian Gouveia and Bino Lopes, both got knocked out early at Haleiwa and failed to make any ground. In fact they lost ground, both slipped down one place while allowing the pack to (almost) catch them.

Ryan Callinan also slipped one place following his early exit and it's bow do or die at Sunset for Callinan. Anything less than the Quarters will spell QS relegation.
