Why?

The idea to buy back old indo fishing boats was crazy, i don't think it ever happened.

But he did get results and got things under control, but surely Scomo as minister for immigration and border control should also get credit??

Yep already covered that base Facto.

"And yes after Krudd made a complete mess of things, he also started the ball rolling on cleaning up the mess, so yeah deserves some credit, but lets not forget he was the one that allowed things to get out of control, almost every person in offshore detention arrived under his watch."

It's another case of you don't give medals to people who light a house on fire and then put it out, although it does seem Labor supporters dont get this concept as we have seen in Victoria with Dan Andrews..

BTW. As you can see in the graph from MW article, numbers didn't total drop and before Operation sovereign borders even had a slight increase.

Anyway instead of taking a small snap shot as old Michael West has let's look at the bigger picture here. (see graph below)

2001 Pacific solution introduced and situation is under control

Ideally common sense dictates you would stick with what works, but hey not Krudd he scrapped the program and numbers began rising, although technically it was at the end of Gillard's run that numbers really started ramping up, then Krudd gets back in and now decides hey okay i completely fucked up and does a complete 360 on policy, even going as far as saying anybody that arrives by boat will never be resettled in Australia.

Aborigines must be shaking their heads in disbelief at Labor's latest propaganda campaign. What an embarrassment to hear the patronising BS that 'all Victorians will feel pride in knowing we are to acknowledge the past'. According to Labor, this is the type of social engineering we all so drastically need (and also to line the pockets of their commissioner and white aboriginal activist mates during a 3 year - that's right, 3 year, inquiry) to make us all feel guilty about past events. Funny how Dan couldn't get the hotel quarantine inquiry over quickly enough when that dealt with a real issue of community concern.

https://www.perthnow.com.au/politics/state-election-2021/state-election-...
"Premier Mark McGowan has urged federal Labor to learn from his centrist government’s stunning victory in Western Australia.

Labor is predicted to claim up to 53 of 59 lower house seats on the back of a remarkable 16.9 per cent swing in Saturday’s election.

It is a generational defeat for the Liberals, who are set to be reduced to as few as two MPs and lose their opposition status to the Nationals.

Mr McGowan says voters have rewarded his government’s strong management of the economy and the COVID-19 pandemic.

He believes the key to Labor’s success has been adopting policies that appeal to broad sections of the community.

“That’s the future for Labor as a political party,” he told reporters on Sunday.

“A lot of people may have come out of a job somewhere where they were once a rusted-on Labor party supporter and then they became a tradie or a small businessman or woman.

“You’ve got to always make sure you continue to appeal to those people and they don’t feel like they need to vote for someone else just because they changed their occupation or they made some money or anything of that nature.

“I’d urge the party all over Australia to go in that direction.” "

...and

"He listed creating jobs, expanding local manufacturing and building the new women’s and babies hospital as top priorities on the government’s agenda."

hooray for local manufacturing - this would be a total reverse of what is going on here in Vic

Australia- pick your poison.

Fcked by the LNP :

https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/coalition-mps-urge-government-to...

Or screwed by the ALP :

“One year on from the pandemic and there are still tens-of-thousands of Australians stuck overseas and unable to return home due to: 1) prohibitive arrivals caps and quarantine limits; and 2) extortionately expensive airfares and quarantine costs.

For months we have witnessed our state and federal governments bicker over arrival numbers, quarantine costs, and whether quarantine should be moved from city hotels to the regions. Meanwhile, Australians stranded abroad are watching on in dismay wondering if they’ll ever come home.

In the ultimate insult, our governments have established special subsidised quarantine arrangements for migrant fruit pickers.

That’s right, while the Victorian Government has banned overseas arrivals into Melbourne following last months lockdown, it has paid the Tasmanian Government $7.8 million to quarantine 1,500 migrant fruit pickers:

The Victorian Government will… cover most of the cost associated with quarantining up to 1,500 Pacific Islander workers under its partnership with Tasmania through a $7.8 million funding commitment, with industry contributing $2,000 per worker.

Having stranded Australians return to their own country is clearly less important to our governments than providing farms with cheap migrant labour, subsidised by the taxpayer.

Why aren’t these quarantine facilities being used to house actual Australians desperate to return home? Why aren’t actual Australians being given priority? And why are returning Australians being forced to wear the full costs of their quarantine when taxpayers are subsiding the costs of migrant fruit pickers?

Quarantine facilities must be used first and foremost to return Australians, not to fly in temporary foreign labour.

When foreign fruit pickers carry more political weight than returning Australians, you know our governments have lost their moral compass.“

Yeah but Harry Triguboff has a load of apartments to offload so guess who wins.

Basically after years of stripping the guts out of education and training facilities, funding dodgy private colleges and concentrating funding to independent schools so they can build a new gymnasium or what not instead of trying to lift up all schools to an even level, now employers are unable to find skilled workers. Who would have thought?

The whole LNP policy platform is being shown to be a farce and still only the spot fires are being reported on, not the reason for the problems.

About time someone gave Albo a kick in the ribs to wake him up. The LNP are laying it out an a platter for him and he’s still at the kiddys bar

Of note:

In the last twelve months, a significant chunk of the urban population has moved to regional areas and they'd all like their newly discovered nirvana to remain as it is. Pull up the drawbridge, thank you very much. Meanwhile, every regional area is undergoing a radical shift from the aforementioned nirvana-seekers, causing issues around rent, real estate, resources, and lifestyle amenity.

Has there been a better time for someone so inclined to prod the immigration and population buttons?

The iron is hot if Bernie Albanese cared to strike it.

fitzroy-21's picture
fitzroy-21's picture
fitzroy-21 Friday, 19 Mar 2021 at 8:21am

The biggest problem with these nirvana seekers is that they love nirvana for it's beauty, that's why they moved there, but they then start to miss all the little creature comforts that they left behind and want to start to turn nirvana into what they escaped from. Nirvana then becomes paradise lost.
