Is a behind the scenes deal being done with the offer to Trump for rare earth minerals if he stops supporting Ukraine ? Could Trump possibly trust Putin to honour such a deal ? It’s just pure speculation on my behalf but unless the EU really steps up with some weapons and personal , then I believe Ukraine is going to be forced into surrendering . Would like to read others thoughts on this as I’m probably way off the mark .

My question is how long before we see serious public pushback from the likes of the UK, France, Germany or even Australia? I note that the Canadians didn’t hold back yesterday.
The same question could equally apply inside the US, when will the saner heads in the GOP start publicly calling out their president?
Like I said in some other posts, arming Ukraine enough to beat the Russians would require them to become one of the largest if not the largest military force in Europe (well 2nd probably behind Russia). If we go by military expenditure they are already one of the biggest, 3rd I belive behind the UK and Germany but in front of France. They are in war so this is not business as usual. But still, a lot more buildup is required.
Now, imagine Ukraine has that power and they kick the Russians out. What will they do with that power? They will not give up on it and Russia can't be trusted, they might attack again. Will they stay aligned with the EU and the US? That's not guaranteed. In short term probably yes but you can't just trust it long term. One way to guarantee their alignment is to join them into the EU and NATO (preferred option). As that one might be controversial (Russia will keep threatening nuclear attack) and lengthy you might need to explore plan B. One of the ways is to secure long term commercial interests with the US, like this minerals deal. It might sounds strange but it's not. The US will protect their commercial interests with weapons. They are unapologetic about this. This is controversial in most developed countries but the US just doesn't care. Imagine a privately held mining operations next to the US military base, funded by US taxpayers. And then if Russia attacks it is also potentially attacking US citizens and US soldiers.
Now I know that I'm jumping around a bit. It's a bit of a crazy scenario. I have no evidence for any of this and these just my thoughts. But it's not like these things don't happen. It was just last year that the US and the UK bombed Yemen to protect Red Sea shipping lanes. Was it an act of war? Did they declare a war on Yemen? No, none of that. It was purely to protect their commercial interests. So, I can see some sort of scenario playing out like this in Ukraine.

There are plenty out there, which paints a different narrative than what you are suggesting.
I'm guessing as pointed out in the video I posted that there are many in Ukraine that want this war to end asap.

I watch a hundred plus YouTube a week on this subject.You can cherry pick whatever you like.In Russia the recruitment centres have been firebombed in some areas.Their gangs show up to workplaces and take people.As well as from their homes.Signing on is a good chance of dieing.Gaol time if they refuse to sign on.Thats the same as it was for conscription in Australia BTW!

A couple of things going on. Trump wishes to court Russia, offering the carrot of things they would desperately like: trade sanctions to go away, reintegration into the global (or: Western global economy, with it's huge consumption markets, unfreezing of assets). Putin might be offering rare earths here to troll Ukraine, or he might be offering a carrot for Trump: end reliance on China for these things.
I think Trump would like to embrace Russia, welcome it back into the West. Sceptical if this will succeed, for Russia has devotes so much time, energy and grand strategy into boosting Eurasian integration, leadership of global South against the West, closer ties with China and North Korea, for example. But for some reason it's being tried.
Presently, it looks like Zelenskyy is going back, will apologise, then sign the minerals agreement. Starmer has done well behind the scenes to patch up a lot of the chaos. Trump is being offered everything he wished: Europe taking care of it's own defence (and boosting it's economy to rally beyond 15 years of austerity in doing so), Ukraine to pay back Biden's investment in rare minerals, Russia to 'Art of the Deal' a peace deal (how to do this: offer them their negotiating aims, they accept, a deal's a deal) and bring them in from the cold, assuaging their fears. To do so, he will happily hand over the 20% of Ukraine Russia has taken. The bloodshed will stop, and he can get on with tariffing countries around the world.
In statesmanship, it sends the message that future aggression will be vindicated and rewarded, but that's a lesson to be learned (learned again? re-learned? retro-learned?) a couple of years into our collective future.
