You would need to understand cultural expectations toward material possessions. That is tough to measure but it's definitely present. Compared to places like the US, Scandinavians may not prioritize accumulating material possessions as a key marker of success. Americans, for example, seem to be obsessed with getting rich. Like living a normal, average is life is not enough. And despite these places being cold, people are out all the time. They will ride bikes to work in rain, snow and darkness. It doesn't bother them as much you'd think. You can get used to it pretty quickly.
