Personally I’d be happy for ALL political topics to be consigned to the back page except for topics that intersected with surfing for two main reasons: firstly it is a surfing website first and foremost and secondly we’ve seen how moving recent political topics to the back page defused the daily inane ill informed tripe (on those topics) down to a trickle. It might be what we have to do, however I also think that's a shame. There was a period there, many years in fact, where the political forums could tolerate many points of view so you got an opportunity to see and read differing POVs.

I think that's an important and underestimated aspect as there aren't many places online where it happens anymore.
