New Victoria restrictions
Depends where in vic blowin, if you lived between cape otway and the sa border and weren't a pussy then you would score waves that would blow your socks off.
don't forget the best big wave in Australia is on that coast, it's not my opinion, not sure if you have listened to Jamie Mitchells podcast but the best big wave surfers in the world say it..
My thoughts on next autumn/winter in Australia:
if Victoria can continue this super low run of cases under 5, you would think in a month or two we will eradicate this thing as the current CV strain going around in tiny numbers now dies out.
If the tracing is up to scratch and people isolate as they should (put a fucking cop car outside their house for 2 weeks if we have to if it’s only 2-3 cases here and there, I’m not kidding either), then with the international borders closed for foreseeable future, how does it come back??
I get that’s not a long term strategy,, but you can absolutely fuck off if you think we’re going back into lockdown if this virus gets back into the country from an international arrival, not after all the pain we have been through this year.
In my mind, another lockdown next year is absolutely not an option whatever happens. Protect the aged care homes properly this time, and let the rest of us get on with life. People can lock themselves home if they want and get everything delivered if need be, but we can’t waste another year of our lives in lockdown.
UK locked down too.
Stop smoking that shitty leaf and tip , Vic Local., it’s addling your mind.
If you don’t think the statistics of the virus have been distorted beyond any recognition due to politicking in the US / UK then you’re way stupider than even I dared imagine.
Unless you think that somewhere like Somalia is a better example of comprehensive and functional governance.....
Never let reality get in the way of political opportunism , hey mate .
Goofy...take everything I say about Vic with a grain of salt.
I enjoy hanging shit on the joint and will slant perspective to suit my cause.
Just like Vic Local when it comes to his DEATH VIRUS !!!!!!!!!
I realise that, it’s quite amusing
DX3 you are forgetting that the vast majority of Victoria’s - and Australia’s - cases of COVID-19 are flown in from overseas.
Eradication is impossible unless the borders are sealed which will never happen. The Ponzi has already kicked back into gear. Vic Local’s hospitality business will be chockas with plague ridden Chinamen within weeks and he will only see $$$$$$$$$$$$ signs.
Blowin. Even if I slapped a cow’s udder on your head, a young bull couldn’t fuck any sense into you.
Are you an obese 85 year old diabetic , Vic Local ?
If you aren’t then you have an infinitesimal chance of succumbing to your PLAGUE.
Got those stats on the death rate for healthy Australians that I asked you about yet mate ?
Why do you insist on spreading panic when the science denies everything you claim ?
You’ve got way more chance getting hit by a car crossing the road you scared old fear monger.
VL & Blowin - you two are the perfect poster children for the new age of misinformation. Both so widely wrapped up in their polar opposing own views and completely unable to see any middle ground. The Google/Youtube/Facebook Monolithic algorithms have you down to a tee.
Anyway, today was unique....around 11am I was out and about and you could see it, and feel it. People's heads buried in their phones. Every conversation I overheard was about the restrictions. It was insane - can't believe I'm living through this, it's almost comical.
The wave pool opening is a big win, and actually funny. Finally the Melb crew can pull the local card! I'll be trying to book a slot and it'll be the first time I've ridden a wave other than bay slop in over 4 months.
But I can't help but feel this will only be temporary. We can't stay sealed off forever and we can't ward away infections to keep the public/media happy unless with take some tips from North Sentinel Island on border control. We've become so obsessed with these tiny....even minute....daily case numbers that it's nonsensical. The difference between 5 cases and 55 cases would be comparing 5 needled to 55 needles in a friggen massive stack of hay. The truth was when we were scratching 700 cases per day it was starting to become significant - which is ok because you want to stop it before it overwhelms. But....we're now too tied up in thinking of cases numbers in either double digit or single. Which is wrong and we'll need to realise this next time the rona comes a knockin.
As Dx3 said - we can't lockdown again, if it happens again we need to buckle up appropriately and ride the wave.
1,400,000 people died from tuberculosis last year .....run and hide !
Lock yourself in the cellar !!!!!!!!!!!!
Stok....on the contrary.
I’ve gone from the media propaganda of FEAR in February- I flew home early from Indo wearing a face mask - to gradual dawning of the facts of the virus.
Fact : There is a tiny chance you will even catch this virus . Out of 7.8B people on Earth after 8 months only 40M have caught it ....5 percent!
Fact : If you are < 70 and healthy you have such a good chance of survival if you actually catch it that chances otherwise are barely worth mentioning
Fact : If you are over 80 years old and healthy you still have a > 90 percent chance of survival.
Fact : More people die every year on the road than from COVID.
Fact : More people die from tuberculosis than from COVID. Do you even consider TB when you leave your house every day....of course not !
Fact : The DEATH PLAGUE is the best thing to happen to politics and the media in literal centuries. Everyday is more FEAR and more CONTROL. Australian parliament doesn’t even sit in session. Premiers are able to issue unchecked decrees without any scientific or medical evidence whatsoever. Newspapers and media outlets have guaranteed headlines and minute by minute updates to sell you.
Fact : There is a virus called COVID 19.
Is it dangerous ?
Yes . Potentially. If you are over 75 and already extremely unhealthy or morbidity obese you may experience a situation where your health deteriorates further and you may die.
If you are under 75 and not already extremely unhealthy or morbidity obese then this virus is not as much a threat as the malaria you might catch on your annual boy’s trip to the Mentawai islands.
Should you lock yourself in your basement out of fear ? Yes ! If you are a panic mongering, weirdo with no testicles you should immediately get the authorities to weld you into your apartment for your own good.

Qldurrz Welcome to the stage...
Vic Dan & WA Mark: "We wish to thank our PM for Kiwi Netball Promo Bubble."
"WTF is this shit?"...
( Excuse me! Mr Premiers...could you just read what's on the card...thank you!)

Yep! Pretty good effort mid Pandemic to breach everyone's Bubble.
Scomo managed to burst 3 unrelated Oz Bubbles 80 times in one weekend!
C'mon! That's pretty near impossible to do as WA / Vic / Qld bubbles don't join?
How fucking dopey & how fuckin' useless do ABF have to be to pull that off!

Oz herd mentality prays to be infected by PM & Trump's zombies...One of Us!
PM & Qldurrz congratulate Victoria on Netball win.
Yep VL, I do love my wine and a litre of Sicilian red certainly brings out the Goodfella in me.
Actually, Eddie and I share the same club love although thats where the similarity ends.
As for the Govts- how cruel if people have loved ones o/s or in Oz who are extremely unwell or dying and there is no way to visit each way? What if you have a medical condition o/s and cant get treated properly in a foreign country?? Thats FKD!!!
SO, If the bureaucrats are so scared and want to do something pro active and positive, how difficult is it to make all arrivals in OZ do mandatory quarantine and testing?
It brings in $$$ and could give local hotels some revenue boost. Thats what happens in other countries. Or they quarantine at home with a proper APP!
Instead our chaotic cretinous gormless scumbags come up with some stupid idea of a Darwin centre for a few measly charter flights. Pathetic.
And as TBB has pointed out, they cant even manage NZ crew arrival movements.
At least can we have temperature scans at the arrivals??!
I reiterate- this crop of policymakers should drop dead! Quickly.
I love it when blowin makes a bunch of statements and finishes them with "FACT" like an angry six year old.
Most of them are complete BS, half truths, or utterly irrelevant.
I love his inconsistency too. Covid was a hoax last week and now it's dangerous.
Make up your mind blow blow.
PS blowin, can you also post some more of your statistics. They are always good for a laugh.
Gee Blowin "1,400,000 people died from tuberculosis last year .....run and hide !
Lock yourself in the cellar !!!!!!!!!!!!"
couldn't resist ............so how contagious is TB ?
As for your fact show...so much disinformation and lack of understanding , you are a scary human being
Don't have strong feelings one way or another, however relaying stats about how few people have caught COVID ignores that those numbers are in spite of a global effort to minimise the disease.
Saying it is 'safe' forgets the preventative measures put in place.
You think there’s no preventative measures taken against tuberculosis, malaria or road deaths ?
Considering that heart disease kills 18 million people per year why is there less onus on preventative measures taken than for COVID ?
200 million killed by heart disease in just over a decade yet the world wasn’t shuttered to prevent these deaths. Even the most outrageous predictions never expect 200 million to ever die from COVID even under complete “ let her rip “ yet it’s Full Panic Ahead Captain !!!
Heart disease kills way more indiscriminately than COVID ( average age of death 83 ! ) yet we are all told to live in perpetual terror because of the virus ?
Good point Stu - if the whole world gave up trying to limit Covid's impact it'd be a sizeable difference I reckon in terms of death numbers. Still mainly affecting those at risk most from covid, but those at risk are still humans and should be treated as such.
But the narrative of lockdowns certainly changed in Australia from flattening the curve to eliminating the virus. It was all meant to buy time for our hospitals to be set up and not overwhelmed, tracing to have its systems in place to track & isolate those with the virus etc. So we've done the hard work now, which means that especially whilst international borders remain closed and likely after they open, hard lockdowns such as Melbourne can't occur again.
Brutus survives cancer , race hate and deadly surf and now he’s calling ME scary ?
WTF ?
Blowin, pointing to other diseases is utterly irrelevant and accusing people of being panic merchants makes you look extremely foolish.
You do realise your batshit crazy opinions are going to be even harder to sustain as we see the full horror of Europe and the USA in the next few months.
"hard lockdowns such as Melbourne can't occur again." Dx3. Nobody wants another hard lock down so the message must be "stay vigilant".
Lockdowns are a shit sandwich mate. If infection rates start getting out of control, you either eat a small one early (Melbourne and NZ), or a very fucking big one later (England and France). Where would you rather be right now? Melbourne or Manchester? Stay safe brother and do the right thing by your fellow citizens.
blowin as you know you are a racist..I am calling you out " cover yourself in Possum fat and sleep under the gum trees."..yeah scary as your opinions are just based on what is relative to your world.....no thought or understanding....you keep bringing up all these stats of non contagious diseases .....and try and compare them to Covid....you are sounding more and more like a conspiracy nutter....
WTF has me having cancer , deadly surf, huh, ......race hate, huh??
No Vic Local.
You are talking dung. Of course other diseases are relevant.
It goes to show just how far down the crazy rabbit hole of the COVID cult you’ve gone when you think that it deserves its own level of hell in Dante’s inferno . It’s just another disease. The fact that you think it’s special and should be taken completely out of context reveals how weird you’ve become.
I’m racist cause I quote something that I was taught ie that indigenous Australians rubbed possum fat on their skin to increase resistance to cold and to aid in preventing mosquito bites ?
“article: A review of early Indigenous artefacts ...www.tandfonline.com › doi › full

Whatever mate.....
My point in my post was that you’ve repeatedly proven yourself brave during your lifetime but now you claim that I scare you because of my opinion on a virus ? I’m not sure why you’d consider my words scary ?
Anyway....that’s a sidetrack I’m not interested in going down any further.
I'm pretty sure that Blowin isn't saying that Covid is safe, but that we should compare with fatality rates from other diseases and risky activities. Maintain a broad perspective, so to speak.
As long as I can keep surfing and play golf I don't give a flying fuck about this whole pile of shit anymore.
Human society is just a massive stain on this planet in 2020.
I will end with this.....Covid is just getting going in Europe and spiking in the USA...we do not know what the end result will be......as we are just beginning.......a vaccine is now the only answer...
Victoria's second wave was 700% above the first....just like the scientists told us, yeah they have been right from the beginning.....so now social distancing, masks and lockdowns have brought Vic back to where NSW has now more infections......we are the living proof of what works
So , no-one knows where this Covid will end , and what will be the final end result...yes economies are getting smashed, as are people lifestyles.....but to trivialize Covid is very very dangerous ask Donald !
Island Bay, what exactly is the point of comparing Covid 19 to car accidents and TB? Do these things have any impact on how we should deal with Covid 19? Blowin's nut job opinions are so fucked up, dangerous, and indefensible, he's only option is to resort to "whataboutism".
blowin has NEVER maintained a broad perspective. He's a bullshit artist who is arguing against medical evidence and common sense. The anti-lockdown position has been lethal all around the globe, and countries that have had loose Covid restrictions have had extremely bad economic outcomes as well. Look at the shitshow in France, England and the USA. That's the blowin option right there.
France , England and the USA all locked down ....what did it achieve beyond destroying their economies and postponing the inevitable ? Argentina had one of the harshest and longest lockdowns in the world .....and one of the highest incidence per population of COVID . Dan Andrews will drag out his arbitrary , politically motivated restrictions until Jobkeeper / Jobseeker runs right down and then blame the population when COVID spikes again at X mas.
Life goes on !
Island Bay....thanks for reassuring me that there’s people out there who are still capable of non binary thinking . The shouty FEAR peddlers so love to swamp any opinion which isn’t pure panic mongering with their bullshit .
Oh I see blowin is still living in the fantasy land where hospital systems can be over-run, temporary morgues need to be set up, and workplaces can become death traps, and there's virtually no impact on the economy. In your tiny little brain, the only thing that is causing economic damage is lockdowns.
Bless your little cotton socks blowin. You're like an 8 year old who still believes in Santa, no matter how implausible overnight reindeer powered sled flights are to all the world's children.
"I will end with this.....Covid is just getting going in Europe and spiking in the USA...we do not know what the end result will be......as we are just beginning.......a vaccine is now the only answer..."
This will be the litmus test.
The first wave, back in April, brought most of Europe to its knees. The re-opening was grand and life was pretty much back to normal over there.
How the society over there will cope with this, and how the health systems will cope will be a real eye opener, either way. It'll either be devastating or a non-event.
Yes, exactly VL. That's the biggest issue overseas. I know people directly effected. hospitals are chock a block, and the staff are being destroyed. Dealing with the deaths too. A client here who's daughter is a doctor and was on the front line right at the beginning, said her daughter absolutely roasted her when she started crapping on like stupe's minder, street fightin' blowie, the vicco big wave ledge on his 6'4" deserted storm,. She said she would love to see her stick her arse into the fray and work the endless shifts. I have to go and do a PT, so won't be able to reply to the shrill squwarking.
"Island Bay, what exactly is the point of comparing Covid 19 to car accidents and TB?"
VL, the point is that all of our actions (or lack thereof) come at a cost (lifes/jobs/economy etc), and we should be aware of that fact - and willing to weigh up those costs.
It seems to me that Blowin is asking us to do just that.
One thing that breaks my heart these days, is that most countries and people have become so inward-looking (much like a person with deep depression), that tens of millions of people in poorer countries will likely die due to the economic consequences of lockdowns, yet we refuse to see farther than the tips of our noses.
Island Bay, Thanks for your post and concern for people living in poorer countries.
My argument is that the economic consequences of not locking down are worse than effectively locking down. This is especially the case in lucky remote island nations like Australia.
The anti-lockdown mob like to play this little game. They like to point to the economic damage of lockdowns while pretending their "let the virus rip" attitude has no economic consequences at all. They do the same with climate change mitigation.
When new infections are rising, delaying lockdown is just delaying the inevitable. England is going into lockdown with 15000 new daily cases. The current shitshow in England was so predictable 6 weeks ago when the anti-lockdown mob got their way. It's a humanitarian and economic tragedy, and the worst of it could have been avoided if Bojo acted sooner.
Amongst all the doom & gloom, for all the contributors of this topic I'd like to share some positive news.... I'm booked into UrbnSurf. It's not the ocean, but I'll be riding waves by the end of the week. Fuck me. Pumped.
What I will say for UrbnSurf is that whilst the waves aren't 3-5ft Winki or Bells, the stoke levels you see at that place are as high as you will see anywhere, and after that shit we've all been through I can't tell you how happy I am at the thought of surrounding myself with a bunch of frothing surfers who've all been through the same shit. Not to mention, 24 waves all to myself over a 2 hour slot.
Good on you.
We had 5 weeks of no surfing over here, and I don't wish that on anybody, so it's been tough to witness your recent lockdown in Vic.
Enjoy the stoke and those 24 waves. It's 24 more than I will surf today.
Cheers mate - 16 weeks since I last paddled out anywhere. Will kook the first few I'm sure.
Have a great day Dx3. You've earned it. When the Melbourne crew are allowed to travel to the real ocean, I'm going to sit it out for a few weeks. (unless it's big enough to really limit the crowds). I figure it's going to be pretty crowded and there's plenty of Melbourne folk who will get much more enjoyment out of wave than me. Anyone who has done the right thing and stayed at home during lockdown deserves priority IMHO.
Doesn't matter. Will still feel like the best thing ever.
Enjoy mate, stoked for the city crew they can open! Bloody deserve it
Good stuff Dx3. It'll be a very frothy session. I haven't surfed on the MP since the start of August or west coast since the start of July. It's been a long wait.
I've booked a couple of slots at the pool in the coming weeks.
Hopefully the shackles are off in November at some point and we can get to the coast.
Have fun Bnkref.
Ah nice work Dx3 and Bnkref...I was slow to the punch and missed the email this morning. The timeslot which works with my family 'leave pass' is all booked out this week. Promptly booked it in next week up to the end of bookings.
Yep - it's a pool and no ocean wave, but it's a reliable tube and a fun wall too. And...once all restrictions are off I can see most breaks becoming an absolute shit show. In some ways, this could be the pool's time to shine - not need to fight for a wave only to get dropped in on by three other surfers.
Will keep an eye out for you guys in the Chlorine!
Good man Stok - I'll be the sleep deprived looking Dad that's getting worked by a 2ft pool wave with the biggest smile on his face you've ever seen - just happy to be there.
Thanks VL.
I look forward to you organising some blowin days next time it's pumping at the SC reefs. Exclusive use of Bells and Winki for Melb punters.
Criteria to run the days are:
5-6ft
15 second or so period
10 knot NW
Have to show your blowin drivers license on Bones Rd to get pass VL manning the road block. Swellnet members get VIP treatment.
Locals can man a BBQ and serve the coffee and beers.
I reckon that idea has merit Bnkref. Might need some vegetarian options for you blokes from North Fitzroy. Craft beer ok?
Ha! Guilty - i'm in Fitzroy (not by choice though).
As long as there's meat snags and burgers, I don't mind if you cater to the vego crowd.
Craft beer preferred but not essential.
Why does the website say it's still closed? I have two credits to use up but haven't seen anything in my inbox.
You pop an eccy this morning VicLocal???
Haha Ringmaster - old VL is certainly a bit more chipper today, SC local promising to stay out of the water for Melb crew....2020 just keeps serving up surprises.
For the MP crew, get your "Melb covid dog-free" waves in while you can, it sounds from Dan today that the 25km limit has 2 weeks maximum in it, before it's open slather within Metro Melb. I sort of understand his reasoning but at the end of the day, it's going to happen eventually, so if we get under 5 a day then just rip the band-aid off and hope like hell people are smart about it.
NEW TRAVEL LIMIT COULD END ‘IN WEEKS’
The Premier was on Monday asked to explain the decision to increase the five-kilometre travel limit to 25 kilometres, describing it as a transitionary measure that could be taken away in “a couple of weeks” or less.
He raised concerns about overcrowding at popular attractions which have been off limits to locked-down Melbourne residents for months.
“It’s about some parts of Melbourne that have got more virus than others, and 25km means you’ve got less movement between those,” he said.
“It’s also about … there are some places of absolute, they are very popular because of their natural beauty, the things that they offer, whether it is Mornington Peninsula or the Dandenong Ranges, we can’t have a situation where everybody is up at the thousand steps and we’ve literally got people that are forming a crowd, the size of which would never be allowed at this point. So it’s nothing more or less than that.
“Now, once we get to a point where the reasons to leave home, there are no more reasons, you can move much more freely and leave your home much more freely, then that 25km limit will almost certainly come off. So it’s not there forever.
“It’s about easing out of the five (km) and before we get all the commentary about, well, there’s no scientific basis for this, that and the other, they are judgments. It’s a package. It is not any one thing, it is a series of things, and that is the way it was put together, it’s off the back of health advice, it’s appropriate at this time, but it won’t be there forever and it won’t be there any longer it needs to be.”
Mr Andrews added: “Probably in a couple of weeks’ time, we are able to take that away.”
“It might even be earlier, depending on whether we can make announcements this weekend, so how Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday’s numbers unfold, that’ll impact what I announce on Sunday, and then we can push off from there.”
No end to the good news, thanks Dx3, I missed that. Stuck here in the badlands with a 25 km limit, can't get to the tub, can't quite get to the surf. Having 15 km of linear sandbank with nothing but wind slop at best within 5 minutes walk isn't quite cutting it.
Just watched the press release from Dan Andrews and I really feel for how victorians are going to once again pay for others stupidity. Not sure how they are going to police the 1 hour exercise policy but a trip down the coast for a surf could be costly. I understand these new restrictions are mainly Melbourne suburbs and I’m very grateful for where I live NSW Qld border. When we were in shutdown there was no time limit for our exercise thank god as a 3 hour surf kept me sane after losing my job.
