I note Australia Gov are sprouting the arrival of medical supplies, millions of masks, testing kits etc but don't mention the supplier.
The money tree is growing again to finance the military buildup.

Here's my tin foil hat theory.
What if 5G is actually weakening humans immune systems and therefore magnifying the damage the virus is doing.

If I could do one experiment it would be to turn off all the 5G satellites for one month.

Many of the developed countries have generous pension payments in place that are unsustainable and as has been often stated are a burden on the smaller working populations of many nations.

What if everyone is over reacting? Humans like drama.
Humans love shows about the end of the world including by viruses and zombies. Ever thought we've been primed for this (either conspiratorially, or from people's own love of a good drama)?

It seems like the numbers that "are disproportionately those with severe symptoms and bad outcomes" is being amplified with high emotion just like the lies that lead to invasions of Iraq and all the destabilisation that followed.

Of all the millions dying each year, of the 150,000 people dying TODAY, why is covid19 getting the attention?

Why are people calling for the economy to get crashed, for their friends to lose their jobs, but not for Australia's trading partner, Saudi Arabia, to stop it's blockade of Yemen which is contributing to the starvation of millions?

Would this have been a sensible approach?
- Instead of general lock down, what about GP's calling those in high risk cases (they know which patients have diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease, etc) and advising them to lock down. Governemt suppprts them with supplies, etc. Everyone else goes about their day, jobs aren't lost and a general campaign is made to advise people to respect the distancing measures from those at risk. They have signs on their doors.

In the meantime funnel resources to sourcing, manufacturing more ICU beds, etc.

Can still restrict/screen some travel where appropriate.

China achieved lock down brutally and effectively after a few weeks had passed but allowed millions to travel overseas!!

Democratic countries,Italy, Spain, USA, Australia etc, etc etc, cannot achieve the same effective lock down as we generally are free spirited and generally undisciplined .

I happen to agree with your approach Patrick- isolate the most vulnerable while supporting that with a commonsense system of minimising social interaction. Surely couldn't be as painful as the ad-hoc make it up as we go approach we're seeing now.

Ive said similar things elsewhere it's about culture, countries that have dealt reasonably well with containment Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong, even China (id expect Japan could be in that list) are countries with a culture of obedience to government and are highly self disciplined cultures. (other area's of Asia however like Indonesia are not the same, actually even the opposite)

Australians/westerners generally don't listen to government or even do the opposite of what is said, we saw this nationally at Bondi, but you can see it all over Australia.

If peopled listened and did what is suggested, a complete shut down would most likely not be needed.

Ideally a complete shut down early would have been great, but also complete chaos, in a sense we are being groomed for a shut down or you could say its happening but only slowly to ensure chaos doesn't set in, but i think most agree its highly likely the day will come when the next stage is announced and we have a full lock down.

But even with all this warning and step by step approach, imagine the chaos that will happen as people scramble for supplies, shops will run out almost instantly and unless shops stay open, people will need a good supply of food etc to get by.
