Summer

Well summer is here.

The local highways are clogged with cars, campers and caravans all a heading down the coast. Lots of boards stacked high with bikes and all sorts of water craft.

Crowds will be expected on all breaks even if its 1 foot and onshore and those multi-coloured fluro wetsuits will get there annual airing. Beaches will be over run with mums and kids and beach brollies and local shop keepers will get grumpier as each day of summer grinds on.

I guess it was always so and will always be.

My thoughts are turning to those balmy days after easter ...............

I just surfed a heavy slabby reef ledge at 4 to 5ft by myself this morning. Was wishing for someone to come out and share it with me. But after Xmas it will be packed down here like everywhere else. It's surprising how uncrowded it is in the lead up to Xmas! It's been pumping down here for the last two weeks:)

No-one could sing it like Billie, my sort of pop music zen. I guess we have very little to grumble about when it all boils down to it .... 3 deg crikey. I've also scored plenty of empty waves lately YS but sadly its all about to end. I should say I like summer cos you get to see fresh faced groms hitting the waves for their first summer on their new boards that santa got them ... those tackers stay in the water for hours, wide eyed, big smiles and super happy ..... a good lesson for us all.

Well summer is almost over.

The local highways are right now clogged with cars, campers and caravans all a heading home from the coast. Lots of boards stacked high with bikes and all sorts of water craft. Crying kids in the back.

Crowds will no longer be expected on all breaks even if its 1 foot and onshore and those multi-coloured fluro wetsuits will be stashed away again until next summer. Kids will next week be all back to school (who would be a teacher?) and shop keepers down the coast will no longer want to kill people or themselves or their staff and by March might start smiling again when you ask for an early morning coffee.

And 3 cheers for all others council staff who daily picked up tons of litter on beaches and streets from here to the black stump and back ... Summer Aussie style ya gotta love it mate.
