Billies alright, went to the ozzie titles in 83 as a last minute reserve when the team wasn't filled and won by being smart, maybe you could comment about "thanking Kong for coming" Sedge
Wayne Dale won the senior mens in the 75 state titles which was the first time held in SA I think. It was maxing victor with rounds held at Kings and the dump. I was amongst a number of people who tried to get out at bullies during one day they were competing at the dump. noone succeeded.
In 1968-69 there was an article in Surfer magazine titled 'These Goofies Three' .The author Rick Chan argued that the three best goofies in the world at the time were: Wayne Lynch,Col Smith (Narrabeen) and Trough regular (our own) Lane Habib. (There was a lot of high grade LSD around at the time.)

Billy! Classic photo of you in The Advertiser this week.
Classic Billy, still legendary, still laughing.
Slightly off topic. Same era - different guy..
Does anyone know what became of Foxy Broadbent? I remember watching him surf Middleton Bay back in the early 80's. Getting barrels and chucking 360's. Nobody I have seen since has come close.
Classic pic of Bill.
David "FOX" Broadbent is a South Coast surfing legend!
I tell the Groms how good he was and how he along with Shane Ellis, Phil Lovell and Josh Locke dominated the local SA surfing scene during the 80's and into the early 90's.
I remember Fox defeating Rabbit in a much anticipated heat to make the finals of the Oz Masters Titles held at Waitpinga. He was amped to take on Rabbit and he had painted his board with a large pic of the Looney Tune character- Yosemite Sam, saying "I'm hunting Rabbits". Fox was a character...and a good guy.
However he was a bit of smart arse and used to give us Groms heaps. Unfortunately for him he pushed Andrew Joy a bit far one day and Andrew brutally punched him out. I think he decided to give surfing away after this incident and I haven't seen him surf since. He still lives in Victor and he coaches his kids Footy team. Fox was also a champion Footballer for Encounter Bay.
Yeh foxy ripped down south, a real specialist there, perfect equipment too. But even Chi's was way too much for him, he was literally helpless, even there. He was definitely king at dribs bay though.
Josh Locke charged anywhere though, I had some sick surfs with him over here.
Erm...I surfed with (and against) Fox everywhere. He was a force of nature.Sitting out the back in a heat at Chinaman's.Fox has easily foxed me out of the last wave of the set.I hear yells from the cliff after which I see him hit the lip and drive into a 360. Chi's too much for him ? Nup.Maybe Horlo's right but I think he lost interest. He made the Australian team...Traveled to Europe to compete.Maybe didn't have the same hunger as the others ,and he was after all a country kid.He showed up out at the Bay a few years ago -out of the blue ...Hadn't surfed for ages ...Paddled out ,dropped straight in on some poor guy then did a carving 360 round another lonesome hero.Never saw him in the water again.
Wow Gaz, it musta been tiny! The South OZ state reps went to margies as well. The least said about that the better.
When I first started to surf the local reef down here Fox was still charging it.Not an easy wave to hit the lip still isn't Foxy used to belt the bejesus out of it.Ive surfed Chi's Margs and your fav uplift all at max size and the local reef has a radical drop just as difficult as all of them and Fox used to lap it up so your call is a bit wrong as regarding him being just a bay master which he was.Still see him around has mellowed out alot complete champ.
I don't agree Frazer, I've seen him sliding all over the place at Chis, and as for my favourite, not sure if I've seen you surf it.
Gidday frazer you'll be glad to know that in a few weeks I'm off to my piece of heavan, to surf my favourite waves for 6 weeks, zero crowds. So many waves lapping over my feet
www.transport.sa.gov.au/data/outer/index.htm
i don’t ever recall eva seein you at my favourite wave. you need to know that if i don’t see you surfing you actually don’t exist
Cos why? cos i am the sickest
That is why on my return i’ll be committed. The men in white coats will have there way with me
Ha you got to watch those man eating Blue crabs and the odd shipping container but well worth the wait then off to the Ozone fish cafe for a feed pure heaven.
Gidday lads, actually if you are Ross's brother I reckon I did surf with ya once, but that was pretty funny, and there wasn't much come back going down from your direction.
Hey great to see the south coast board riders being such a strong club full of kick ass surfers and ive heard Foxy will be surfing when the weather warms up yep he is a top surfer King of the bay and a top bloke )

He was laying his guitar at the Marion Bay hotel and he managed to completely bore the shit out of us for a whole week and when we thought we were rid of him he showed up on our doorstep at home in vicco about 3 months later and proceeded to couch surf there for about 2 months before we worded him up.
All in all a nice enough guy but one that should be kept at arms length. Maybe someone out there could give him a real job and he would do much better.
Na all good, it was interesting to meet Billy and have a bit of a laugh with him. Good on ya Billy Feb!
This was just show to me the other day .
I Billy February do not know this person was not playing at the hotel and have never stayed at any ones house like this in Vic ever and I cant believe some one would even write this crap
The net is great you can check the surf watch utube face book look things up etc.... book a plane ticket and Skype all great stuff ) but the net also opens the door to low lifes to get on the net and talk shit and lies about others that is the sad side of the net ...
What ever happened to Josh Lock ? Billabongs golden boy for a while there ,I remember some time ago he wrote a small article in tracksmag ? re some depression issues relating to pot smoking......hope he has got it sorted.
Just found a board of his dug up out of old shed if you can get in touch w him let him know thanks
