Sheepy, ex spinner, is clearly a wordsmith given his regular contributions here so can he be trusted? I'm a little worried, perhaps I'll check with Mrs Sheepy first before diving into a pie.

Calling Yorksurfer & Grocer to the ring ....... In tonight's main event.

In the White Corner is the Marvellous, the Mighty ..... Yorksurfer. Defender of all things good and right.

And in the Black Corner, under his rock, is the Grocer. The Boxer heavily hindered by two blinkered and blind eyes.

I know Bob doesn't let the truth get in the way of a good story...but don't all good stories have a grain of truth? Makes for a good laugh in these times of dire politics.

I saw the Mcmanus link for the first time about two months into Aborts term, it was fucking depressing back then, but man it sure is sad now. That's why a read of Bob Ellis and First Dog lightens the outlook somewhat on another dreary day of the turkey shoot we now call politics.

The double standards and blatant hypocrisy of this bunch of born to rule elitists beggars belief. He is doing a splendid job of shielding him and his obscenely wealthy mates at the top of he food chain from any hip pocket pain. Scott Morrisson , the Minister that stopped the boats , saving the country billions and saving countless lives in the process, had a good point when he said,
"We've been left with an ugly filthy mess from the Labor party. They've trashed the house , shot the dog ,thrown the keys on the front lawn and just burned out up the street. That's what the Labor party did on our borders and what they did to our economy."

@grocer says its a good read. Have you read the book grocer? Can you please provide a summary of the book's findings as well as some comments as to how events that may have happened 70 years ago are relevant today.

@grocer, the refugee issue is very complex and no-one really has all the answers but the one thing I want to ask is, where is the compassion in this policy?

If you are rich you can come here and buy your citizenship; if you can scam a 457 visa and work here for a few years you can get citizenship; if you are a student who studies here as a full fee paying university student you can get citizenship; if you fly here as a tourist, student or refugee you can overstay your visa and work for as long as you like but you can't get citizenship but the under funded and under resourced Immigration Department have to catch you.

The government doesn't want to openly talk about the rich buying citizenship, or uni students or 457 visa workers but if you dare come here in a leaky boat, well you can't, we will tow you back or lock you up and we will make your life as horrible as possible.

And that's why grocer its all about politics. Its got nothing to do with saving people from drowning. As Malcolm Frazer said (of Scot Morrison & Abbott) they can't be one hour a week catholics.

So grocer, where is the compassion?

Why bother fellas? Grocer's output appears to match the broader conservative position. If there's one thing missing on the political scene at present (besides compassion, a fair budget, open media etc etc) is some honest-to-god intellectual jousting from the right. Where are those who'll push forth the right's viewpoint with some worthwhile adversarial argument?

In the media we get bovver boys like Bolt, lightweights like Sheridan, or those so commercially aligned it taints all output such as Chris Mitchell. Is it any wonder past conservative crusaders such as Fraser, Hewson, and Georgiou have abandoned their cause?

I flick through the odd Oz, read the (even odder) issue of Quadrant, and it appears to me the liberal movement has stultified; the most prominient voices being barrow-pushers and hate-mongers. @Sheepdog…the money is coming from Foreign Aid (already allocated). Aimed for 'poorer' countries and hence not part of the budget. It seems to be just a redistribution. Whether its enough, is debatable. How much is enough ? This maybe a good one if the aid is for AUS made goods used in foreign aid.

Interestingly many people would disagree with your 'climate change being a theory'. You have got to say, you can't complain if the Libs don't give enough money to aid then complain when they do. I don't see a problem in having a say on how / where the donated money is spent.

I know many people who are life-long Liberal Party voters. They have voted informal at the last two elections because they can't stand Abbott and everything he stood for and did in opposition. They say sadly that the Liberal Party is no longer liberal rather a ultra-right conservative party. They bemoan the dishonesty of Abbott, Brandis, Sinodinos and others and question their motives to only represent their mates and big business. They comment how this crop of conservatives are fools to believe everything can be solved by the market. They believe things are going down the toilet and they can't see themselves ever voting "liberal" again.

I've just discovered that under a free trade agreement , China will be allowed to supply labour for any large project in Australia and that the definition of large project has shifted from $2B to $1.5M.

That says more about the future standard of living for Australians than anything I've heard in quite a while.
