If I was Joe Punter, I'd look at the far left description of The Greens and be put off voting for them, I'd assume they were too radical.

Problem is the government needs to keep bringing in more and more people so that they can work and pay taxes to support Australia's ageing population in the style that they've become accustomed to. In order to stabilise the population they'd need to implement some pretty radical policies. Inheritance tax, tax capital gain on the family home, include family home in pension assets test, raise the age for the pension etc. Good luck trying to get elected on that platform.

No government money for private schools or hospitals. (Despite my preference above for smaller rather than larger government, put the money (maybe not all of it) into the public system.)
No state government politicians.
