I think a win tops our group for World Cup qualifying and that gives us a favourable draw going into the next series or something along those lines.
Euro and SthAmerican tournaments soonish.
Pommys played a friendly against the power houses of Iceland(they put a Burger in front of their goal)...POMS lost 1 blot, got smashed in Cricket too(terrible hey!).Lots of other Euro friendlies going on.
Euros start Friday night over there(Sat morning here) Germany host nation.

The A league season begins at end of July with preSeason Australia Cup...all the A league teams get drawn away for the small teams to host the best players.Sometimes the little teams can cause an upset due to the non A league clubs being match fit in mid to late season.
Big news in A league is the Admin body known as the Australian Professional League (but they do a fkn absolute amateur hour job) have cut the funding to clubs by $1.5 million to a paltry 500K.Lets see how long till this comp goes belly up.Mismanagement worse than a labor government, ThURDworld thinkers!

Really hoping England win the Euros. But if not, I’d like to see the French take it out without scoring a goal in open play. And thumb their noses at all and sundry. Feel like that’d be a very French thing to do.
I hope England doesn’t win. A terrible team. Spain showed the most. By far the best and most consistent and they deserve to win. I can’t wait for this to finish and the new club season starts. Players look very tired and fatigued in the euros, resulting in poor quality football. Man city would’ve won this cup with half of effort.

Doesn’t matter if you’re the most successful England manager since Sir Alf. If you don’t fit the exotic charismatic entertainer manager model of Pep, Klopp, Mourinho etc – the pundits won’t have you. Hear the arguments; Southgate’s too scared to drop Kane, he’s playing the best players not picking the best team (the perennial), why can’t these player play for country like they do club (the perennial), not playing high enough, formation’s wrong etc.
And the general points made above. No one’s played well except Spain, maybe Germany. All the players are probably worn out. City probably would win the tournament.
But could the reason for the seemingly uninspired nature of the tournament be as simple as international teams across Europe being so even now? This would seem the natural outcome of 30yrs of the Bosman rule. A standardisation of quality, style, tactics, training methods, preparation etc that perversely results in generic, dull football at international level. When the question of who’s got the most Middle Eastern oil money to splash on the best players is removed from the equation.
Yet another example of the deleterious consequences of free trade neo-liberalism.
When I mount my nationalist takeover of the FA/EPL the first thing I’ll do is impose punitive tariffs on imports, ie international players and mangers, crippling excise on international transfer fees, and for any player or manager that does squeeze through the barrage, wages taxed at well over and above the maximum bracket. Give the jobs back to British players and managers.
Rip the seats out of the ends to promote a natural re-wilding of hooligans. Reduce ticket prices. Bring the game back to the people.
Why shouldn’t things be like they were before? Nothing wrong with a bit of nostalgia.

But fair play to theThe Guardian, they have some brilliant football writers on their books. Johnny Liew, Jonathan Wilson, Barnay Ronay. And my favourite posh lass, Marina Hyde. Always somehow manage to come up with a unique perspective, insight. Don't know how they do it, time after time. No danger of being supplanted by AI, that lot. Much like the Swellnet crew.

Off topic - but the first thing I checked out of his was the video he narrates on the regenerative impact the re-wilding of the wolf has had on the wider Yellowstone ecosystem. Not necessarily his main schtick, but I was curious ‘cos when I was lucky enough to hang out in that part of the world for a little bit, I had the good fortune to go on a few hikes led by a local fella.
This dude told me that the re-introduction of the wolf had been a disaster. Can’t remember the details of what he said, but the gist of it was that the Canadian wolf George talks about in the video was a much larger variety of wolf than the decimated indigenous wolf, and had thus caused more harm than good.
This guy wasn’t a hunter, so wouldn’t have been him bemoaning the reduced numbers of elk. More of a greenie if anything, which is more common in that part of the world than one might think. Terrific fella. Grew up on the edge of the forest, him and his brothers roaming far and wide, knew the place backwards. So I wouldn’t discount his assessment.
But I think I’ll come down on the side of the story George weaves in this wonderful little vid. Quite uplifting really.

Ain’t gonna be no revolution. We’ll arrive at the glorious future via the existing, democratic structures. All of which are looking increasingly antiquated, cracking under the weight of the forces bearing down on them.

The FA leagues will become the Peoples League. The game needs to be brought back to the people. They people need to feel like they have a stake. I’ll take a leaf from your friend Peter Dutton’s book. Any team that doesn’t act in the public interest – ie hoof the long ball to a target man – will be subject to divestiture. Dutton is catching on fast.
