Damn that 7plus will suck you in.
I only watch Lions games. Take no interest otherwise other than the ladder machinations throughout the year. Nearly entered Fremantle Stadium last weekend to watch the local derby but shit it was 38 degrees. A nanna nap in the air con was more appealing.

love aussie rules, local is great. (but even sanfl and wafl is too big for its boots, won't let you back the ute in.. you can do it at some vfl if you pretend you're part of catering). but 38 degrees is too hot to be doing anything that isn't wet, horizontal or closed-eyed.

Yep I like the local here. The Pomona v Gympie seniors games are great. Old rivalry. There hasn’t been a comp last few years due to lack of players. It’s on this year. Also a full girls team in the juniors which is fantastic You must remember this is boofhead ball country.

B6 has clearly been affected by dermal absorption whilst using Mr.Sheen, it’s gone to his head from the polishing of all those knobs in that old house.
I also recall Graham Cornes once had a Toyota dealership in Adelaide.
I don’t recall that model B6 mentioned, Toyota Camry limited edition ‘ Modra’ AW.

Good win by da Pies, especially with a few important outs, good to see all our forwards that had average games last week stand up Elliot, Bobby, Mihocek all 3 goals each and a good spread of other goal kickers.

Sidey & Pendles both had great games again especially Sidey they have been playing like they are in their prime age.

Ned long also had a great game second highest disposals count second highest tackle count and 8 clearances, he is going to be a player.

DC also had another good game and is so far having a great year.

So many others that go under the radar but play their role.

Also I should note while Nick had 30+ disposals, he hasnt been the stand out player every game this year like say last year, and while it's not great for his brownlow medal hopes, it is a good sign for the team, he is still important but we arent relying on him, we are having a much better spread of others standing up

Next week is going to be a challenge though with the Lions at the Gabba.

And at least for right now :P

Still basking in the glory of the last great (Dusty) era.
They came from 16th in 2016 to the flag in 2017.
It will be ON again for the Yellow and Black soon.
Sooner than you think.

BTW I used to play squash at Mike Hunt's squash courts in Doncaster in Melbourne back in the 70's.
He and his brother also had a "Mike Hunt's Gym"
I got the double entendre back then, that's why we liked to play squash there, and I reckon the Hunt brothers did too!

Good on ya @blackers, I waited thirty years or more for that last golden era, it was worth it. (My mate) Dusty was such a fkn gun, best of the modern era by far I reckon. It should have been four in a row but that bloody American (he's a nice guy actually) killed us in the semi in 2018, at least the Eagles sorted out the wobblers that year. The tigers were on fire that season too.

Dunno if you ever saw me post this a while back @blackers, I'm a bit of Richmond Royalty myself just quietly, my grandad is a Hall of Fame player, No. 41 in the Tiger HoF, so I''ll post this just for you if you didn't see it when I put it up here a few years ago. And here's some footage from my grandad's last game in the seniors, the "revenge" GF of 1934, (the Tigers came back from a defeat in the 1933 GF by South Melbourne.). It features a young Jack Dyer in his second season (No 17), (my "Uncle Jacky" as we all called him growing up, a wonderful man) and some of my grandad (No.18) with Jack Dyer going third man up in a boundry throw in over him. My grandad starred in that GF, his favorite game of all of them he said.

GS....i reckon Paddy deserved a Normy in the 2022 grandfinal, but was pipped by Issac Smith...who i won 70bucks off mind you for picking him as the Normie winner. Andrew Mcleod is also in my greatest players ever (dual normy winner) as is Gary Ablett snr(Indo) however, there's never...ever been a player with the sheer ferocity of Dangerfield. He's created a new prototype of sheer muscle...bull type of player. I watched many Gary Ablett senior games,...he was my greatest ever...but then along came Danger. He's not the flashiest player...he won't take mark of the year, probably not kick goal of the year....but what he does in the contest is game changing and determines results time and time again. He's as close to a white pointer on the footy field as i've ever seen. Apex predator. Good luck to anyone that wants to step into his shoes. Expect pain. Never seen a player cop so many hits as him, yet get up and get on with it. The mans a warrior. Of the highest order. Anyway..personal opinion! haha.

Yeah, I call bullshit on that one @Southern, Patrick is a great player no doubt, a gun, but just watch Dusty make a fool of him in the 2020 GF, pulled his pants down in the final quarter, pinched the handball and slung Danger off like he was a girl. Great goal too.

&list=PLw7iQTmQkeUgtnGGg0tzbjB8Ul7OZ_0hv&index=2

It's near the end of the last quarter, and Danger played a bit of a shit game that day, knocked out a Tiger player early and it put him off that day I think. Trent Cotchin took out Gary Jnr's shoulder and finished his career on a dud note just prior to that hit by Dangerfield I remember too.

Great players step up in the big games, they inspire greatness from their team mates, they lift their side. That's what Dusty is remembered for most. Plus the fend, and his run, and his fkn kicking was amazing to watch too.
Three Norm Smith medals says it all.

There are the greats, like Dangerfield, Ablett Snr and Jnr, Leigh Matthews, Ian Stewart, and every other great that has played the game, "Captain Blood" Jack Dyer included. All of them, everyone that has ever played the game at the highest level and become a "great".
And there is a line in the sand....
With only one set of footprints above it.
They belong to Dustin Martin.

We can debate this all you want @Southern, it's fun, but Dusty has the receipts, the trifectas. Three Flags, a Brownlow and when it counted the most, Three Norm Smith Medals.

@Indo, young Nick is what Jack Dyer would call a "pretty" player.
I like the Daicos family, father and sons, great players. Freakish talent in that family tree. Met Peter once or twice, sold him some chairs for a restaurant he was doing back in the day. Really nice guy.

I remember clearly exactly where i was when this most deflating moment happented.
And yep, huge kudos to Dusty for that moment.
BUT.....it's not the whole picture.
Danger is a far superior player in many facets.
Dusty is a great finisher and a great field kick, and his fend offs were legendary.
But Danger can change the momentum of the game in the scraps, where you can't even see it.
He inspires those next to him to walk taller.
Yeah i've got no hope of ever changing your mind, you're a Tiger through and through, and i love that...yeah Dusty has the reciepts...but for mine..Danger is the ultimate footballer. And he's still playing. Whatever happened to Dustin?

Aaah @Southern, this fun debate just goes to show that there is nothing wrong with a bit of "man love" amongst us staunchly hetrosexual Aussie blokes, (speaking for myself there @Southern, dunno what floats your boat really, I assume you are though) we all love our footy champions.

Anyway, when Patrick Dangerfield has three Norm Smiths, three premierships and more than one Brownlow you can get back to me then, and I might take your word for it.
As the fans like to say..."SCOREBOARD !"

As for Collingwood, I grew up hating them, it was in my DNA. My grandad lost three Grand Finals to them during their golden era in the 1920's when they won four in a row.
They were a brutal side back then too.

But the truth is the players always got on really well off field, the rivalry was more between the cheer squads which were huge in those days. They used to have running brawls on a Saturday night along the back lanes of Richmond and Collingwood after the teams had met that day on the field, while the players would get together for a drink or socialise after the games.
This was true too in the 70's and 80's when I used to go to the after game functions sometimes with some of my relatives that were Richmond life members. The players would all get on the piss together after the game, the umpires too.
White line fever. It (mostly) stayed on field.

They don't do that these days, but something I love about the modern game is the way the players shake hands post match on the field and opponents hang around and chat to each other, the boys have a catch up with mates they came up through the system with and players who change clubs embrace and chat with old team mates. The game has changed a lot in recent times, but that part is the same. I really like that.

And I do like Patrick Dangerfield, he's a rolled gold champion footy player, an on field General like Captain Blood was, a match winner and a gun, and a Moggs Creek boy and a surfer and fisherman. What's not to like about that? He is also an off field leader, both of his team and the game and league itself. Dusty didn't speak up much, that is his way and part of his aura, but Danger is a ripper with the microphone in his hand. A true leader of the sport itself. I admire and respect him for that as well as his playing.

And truth is I'm a bit of a Collingwood fan too these days, in the post Eddie McGuire era. I really like them now, and the Daicos boys, and the coach (he was part of the Tigers recent success). It's just fun to bring out the Colliwobble stuff to razz up their fans a bit. They are still the most "one eyed" fans in the league. Good on them.

But come @ me again on who's the best @Southern when Patrick has a few more flags and Brownlows and Norm Smiths and we can talk more about it then.

Right now, it's Dusty mate. Daylight second!

southernraw's picture
southernraw's picture
southernraw Sunday, 13 Apr 2025 at 11:23am

Hahaha. Okkaaaaay i'll concede that based on the 'scoreboard' it appears that Dusty is the better.
But deep down i'll never believe it! He's an absolute gun, Dusty. No doubt about it. I used to love that not only did he do amazing things when he had the ball but it was almost like his energy would stay with the ball when he kicked or passed it to other players all the way through the chain of play that he started, I swear it happened so often...whether it was just players being inspired by him, or if he was tapped into something on a different level A great of the game with the credentials to back it up too.
Great times back in the 80s by those stories. Cheers for sharing those.
Yeah i do miss the absolute fanaticism that Victoria as a state holds for football. While WA is a footy state, SA too(although SA pretty fanatical) they just don't have that same deeply ingrained football dna that is prevalent throughout all of vicco due to having so many teams and supporters.
Yeah it's in my blood to hate the pies too but agree, the current team is easy to like and get behind. As a bomber, my mortal enermy is more in the Carlton scheme of things, I want to see them lose to everyone. Collingwood included!!
Good win by the Dons last night Yeeeew!

That was a hard one to watch, but let's not forget the game before that the preliminary final that we smashed the Tigers in.

Cox is a weird player, i go from loving him to being frustrated with him, he is so hot and cold, but he won us that game he was huge, still maybe the best game he has played, pity he hasn't continue at the level, could even be his last year.

Still it's a cool story, guy from USA has never touched a AFL ball, then a few years latter becomes an AFL premiership player
