I’ve got a mate that works as a security consultation / advisor to a bunch of USAID programs globally. US company, but he’s UK-based. He’s regularly in a lot of pretty hairy places. Haiti, a bunch of African states, Ukraine.
From his perspective, the work being done in these varied locations is ‘good’ work; appreciated by the locals, sensitive to requirements, helps build better governance into local security, helps deliver important programs, and builds a lot of credit for the US. At the moment they’re faced with ‘chaos’ as the result of the Trump EO. Lack of certainty, not sure if they’re going to need to lay off hundreds of workers.
My mate is a conservative, btw.

“Trump time “ I like that , is it similar to Bali time ? , Trump speak is the difficult part to interpret , is it similar to the Balinese ‘ you pay extra ‘ The war on drugs is an interesting one. The drug problem needs cleaning up but like you said, the drugs will keep coming . People take drugs for a variety of reasons , usually to change the way they feel and temporarily escape from their circumstances . Until governments address the core issues, there will always be a demand for drugs .

The "trade war"on drugs is going to be about as effective as the original Reagan "war" on drugs.

Trump can start a trade war with his neighbors.
Declare the cartels terrorists and send in the Seals and eliminate all the cartel leadership it can.
Force China to stop the precursors.

The drugs will not stop coming.

Meanwhile while everyone's attention is being diverted, Trump has sacked the auditors and removed all the disclosure laws.
The greatest robbery in history is about to take place.
And no one will know.

Trump declares war on drugs but pardons a convicted drug dealer. That makes sense.

And maybe Canada should invade Alaska: just for fun!

You talking about Ross Ulbricht?

He's the one.

Regardless of whether you think his sentence was excessive or not, his pardon is at odds with "The Don's' war on drugs.

I mean you have to set an example as a deterrent.

Or was his pre election commitment to pardon Ulbricht just a scheme to shore up a few more votes?

i have no issue with his pardon as i believe his sentence was excessive, but i also believe he was pardoned for a few more votes.

4. The US has allowed its manufacturing base to be destroyed by globalization mongers for three decades. China has done the opposite, as have other countries, and now the US has a $1 trillion a year trade deficit, while the globalization mongers laughed all the way to the bank.

5. It’s a scandal what happened, three decades of connivance by the US government and Corporate America to destroy the manufacturing base so that corporate profit margins could fatten, while the most important economic sector – manufacturing – with its huge primary, secondary, and tertiary impact on employment, wages, household incomes, tax receipts, knowhow, infrastructure, etc. was shifted to overseas locations. That this was encouraged to happen was a huge scandal that spanned across both political parties. And those idiots are still spreading the same BS today."

Despite his tactics at least Trump is saying he wants to bring back manufacturing to the US. Contrast that with Australian politicians who consistently say we are a "service based economy" meaning that basically they have zero ambition for any manufacturing base in this country

Yep, Australia looks at US and says "Hold my beer, I can do better, watch me end my car industry and its downstream suppliers and career opportunities for my graduates; reduce all my oil refineries to just 2 remaining, there goes my last plastics manufacturer; watch me fall into bottom 1/3 of the world's countries in economic complexity; watch me export my gas for peanuts and deny my east coast a reservation as the only major exporter who does this shutting more factories, now I'm trying to export my gas for peanuts then re-import it from the people I sold it to for market prices and then charge these prices to homes and any manufacturers left who haven't been asphyxiated yet."

US says, "Damn son."

For possibly the first time ever, you're right! Savage indictment on that POS that I didn't question for one second whether that was real and I don't doubt for one second that he'll eventually do it. Just scrolled back through his account to see if it was a legit post. The things he says are so unhinged. hahhah. What a lunatic.
