Telo Island Lodge versus Latitude zero resort
Supafreak wrote:Morning AW , I use Traveloka app for any bookings I do in indo . I have found them very helpful & full refunds are paid promptly, like within a day or 2 . They are also quicker than airlines in alerts for change in flight times. I pay a little extra and get the 100% refund that can be for cancellation for any reason up to 24hours before flight . Thanks overthefalls , I haven’t been back since 2011 & have heard how packed it gets, particularly that time of year . A friend goes every year at that time and says the same but he still keeps going and gets his fill as frustrating as it can be . It’s going to be interesting to see first hand how much it’s changed. AW , if those dates and flight times are all good with you , I will book as I can always change or cancel anytime if things go pear shaped .
Totally agree we have used them a lot and we have found them really good too, even with refunds, IMHO often better to go through them than even direct with airlines or hotels etc
Yeah i heard Katiet is getting pretty out of control with development and not good development, that whole build a high fence/wall around everything look.
I have beachfront land on the edge of Tua Pejat in North Sipora looking across to Suicides & Icelands, a friend is currently building a place next door and i will start building a house/villa in the next few years, but we have both agreed to not do that totally walled in look at the front and try to keep things as natural and low impact as possible, luckily we are in an area with no real erosion issues but across the channel at Awera Island in some areas where resorts are they are losing big areas of land, while up the beach where other camps/resorts the beach is building up and they are gaining land.
Agreed indo , I prefer going through them ( traveloka ) rather than direct with the airline. Nam airlines website is near useless . Good luck with your build , can’t be an easy thing to do out there . On Lembongan you must add at least 30% to cost of build compared to Bali .
ha, it's working..
Yeah sorry guys for taking over the thread , @ AW I’ve also got you booked in for 14th July check out on 20th . Couldn’t get 7 days straight at Tarci but have you just 30 seconds away. It’s only fair that I pick up the tab , it’s not 5star but comfortable enough. Many return guests book a year in advance, especially school holidays . Plenty to see and do in that week , surfing , fishing, snorkeling etc
@AW , missed your last post on the other page , I’ve looked at dates for the other destination and unfortunately the tides are completely opposite for what we need . That can be another trip down the track . Hope you get your knee sorted .
BTW Supa we disagree on a lot of things, but one thing i do like about you is you have moved to Indo but still do trips around Indo to different places
I know quite a few guys that have moved to Bali yet rarely if ever go elsewhere in Indo, not sure why.
BTW. Do you get sick of surfing the same waves on Lembongan?
Strange as it may sound the season i did at Maccas, i actually got kind of sick of Maccas but i am a natural footer that rarely goes left at home.
Plus i just got sick of the boats and crowds too, especially as everyone that arrived was just frothing and so wave hungry, a lot of time in Indo i much prefer to surf lesser known B-gradish waves for that reason.
As I get older and slower indo , surfing becomes more of a challenge. Shipwreck is only a B grade wave at best but with different tides & directions it has many different challenging moods . It’s easy to get hurt out there and packs some punch for a small wave. Razors can be very challenging and difficult, gets better with size . Lacerations, I’ve nearly given up , just very technical from the takeoff and I’m a bit slow with my pop up out there . It’s not the type of wave you want to fuckup on , being so shallow and sharp . I don’t really surf playgrounds or muntigs . Ghosties occasionally. I had 3 months away last year, probably do the same or more this year and the wet season has been fun on the east coast . I just appreciate the fact that I can still paddle out , so many give it away , sit at a bar and reminisce. That’s sad I reckon & boring . Some of the spots I’ve surfed recently have 5 times the crowds of pre covid . Next 5 years are going to only get worse but like the other day, it went from 25 people to 5 & started to pulse & pick up in size and conditions became perfect , ya live for those experiences I reckon .

One thing I discovered, was that surfing a perfect wave , with no one else out,
Does eventually get boring,
after the 30th wave or so
Sounds like you’d get more waves on the Goldy .
I haven't been back to Lembongan for over 20 years, but I did like shipwrecks just a fun reliable wave with many moods like you say, i also remember one day on solid high period swell it getting quite good and even hollow almost like it was a different wave.
I remember laceration's take off being challenging even when young, great wave though.
I only ever bothered with playgrounds once and the funny thing is i actually hit the reef and got a decent graze :P
Yeah crowds have really jumped since Covid, this off season ive also been getting a lot more enquires for the Surf House from Euro surfers which is kind of scary lots of girls or traveler's asking if we rent boards so obviously not real great surfers, every other year nobody ask or comes in Feb.
But yeah regarding crowds like you said you just never know, it can be average and crowded one day or hour and almost empty the next hour or much better the next day and barely anyone around, sometimes you just to have to be positive and just do it and see what happens, rather than get bummed out with the crowds and not go out or bother looking for a wave.
Nice yeah thats what it was like.
B grade in Indo is still damn fun.
BTW. Good little tube set up pics too, i love doing those little stall mid face turns into barrels on your forehand, they feel so good and put you right in that perfect spot.
Looking at booking a 10 day stay in late September/early October. Travelling solo. Any info regarding a choice of one over the other would be greatly appreciated. Considerations would include cost, access to waves, crowds, and services.
Thanks for the help.
