We went 2 the Anglesea Caravan Park 4 the Summer Hols , starting in 1966 .
Dad had NFI , but 4 some reason , loved towing a big Van .
He must have thought surfing cool , so introduced me 2 surfing and bought my brother and I , some no name , no sticker , yellow boards .
I dragged the big board 4 a km and surfed , absolutely NO instructions , until dragged away , by my mums loud call .
Did a bit of fishing off the bridge , as well .
No golf .

This has been my long standing no. 1 Aus vernacular phrase, for the sound, visuals, implications and connotations.. love it.

So eager to tweak what you have for what waves, to shape what you want. and they do it proper. just 30 bucks couriered to Adelaide for pick up. they've been doing a fair bit of vicco surf coast specific shaping for customers lately too.
(just to clarify my above post, it's 'pawn', not 'porn', Hardcore Pawn is a telly show about a hock-shop, but it pissed my mate off, that the room went silent, like there might be some reality in him being a psycho pervert).
I remember dad pulling up on the edge of a cliff with the FB Holden towing the van on the West Coast at some of the most beautiful rugged coastline you could ever see. Us kids were fighting in the back seat and in shitty moods after hours on corrugated dusty tracks and refused to get out for a look, until dad said look there's a dead dog floating in the water down there. We all jumped out excited and ran over to see. He loved to remind us of special moments like that.

I think we all forget how innocent we were in those days of Summer in coastal locations. As kids it felt like we were away for weeks , an endless summer so to speak.
You could trust society to look after your kids back then and kids were trusted to look after each other( I know creeps were still around) but it felt like we were invincibile.
I had a good little golf ball business back in my home town of Apollo Bay every Summer, in fact made enough money to buy a new spring suit and full diving kit.
Even had other kids collecting on my behalf, early in roads of a business , Alan Bond style.
It probably wasn’t, but we always thought we had scorching Summers, in the Bay, don’t think so.
Great times indeed, waited for the Milko to come around selling BigM’s, upon reflection, he’d probably instigated early onset diabetes of those milk sugar drinks.
A fish guy would come around with a few fillets in the back door, father would slip a little folded stuff in a handshake..

What I loved about those generations of parents was the lack of fear, trusted their well made vehicles, used their own nouse to navigate , could fix most problems, all without a mobile phone.
A worthy and trusty era of parents.
We had a FB Holden also, it was snow white, my father paid cash for it after saving up working two jobs in Apollo Bay, pumping fuel at the only servo and working at the fish co op.
All my forebears were boat builders, fishermen and surfers.
Being on the coast to a kid felt like the norm. We simply loved it, still do. AW

Basesix. Australian vernacular in my opinion is the best, straight to the point, might hurt, but it sets you straight, right up.
Those Gravelle boards would be definitely worth the wait, well crafted works of surfing art.

Small 3ft, occasional 4, last Friday, VJ also scored that warm oily mirror sea surface, had my MOTE twinny, even with the lack of push from a dying swell, caught heaps of waves very easily, a little more foam under me than normal , two strokes, on, off ya go.
Slightly bigger fins than normal surf the fast walls well.

Hi AW, my dad made the mistake of taking me along when he traded in the Vauxhall for the brand new cream FB standard. We took the salesman for a ride in the old car to get a good trade in price, I proudly said, dad painted it himself which was pretty obvious from all the brush hairs stuck all over it, then I kept saying, there's that funny noise again dad.
He would drive the new car until it ran out of petrol and then check his log book before getting a tin of petrol out of the boot and pouring it in, all to get an accurate fuel consumption reading.
Haha between standing down on the rocks watching 20foot sideshore monster surf this morning, and studying, this thread has been a welcome light hearted relief.
Speaking of hardcore pawn and West Beach....the reason i used to go there was i was seeing a chick there when i was a teenager. Anyhoo, without going into too much detail, we were in her bedroom, lets say i was enjoying some culinary delights, and her mum walked in! Proper busted.
That night was an awkward one at the family dinner table. Not too long after dinner my night became even more awkward as the first of many barely controlled bowel movements began. I spent the night on the dunny, absolutely convinced her parents had laced my food with laxatives. Fair to say i never ate there again. ;-P

Basesix. I’ve been playing at that nullabor links course since 1984. Prevailing winds suits my ‘swing’ at that time of year.
My course around here at the same time of year is often way too ruffled, a lot of John Player ‘specials’, but the rough is tough til it hits the spot , no Uncle Sam and Gough not a cough.
Me and a couple of mates board the starship Hiace NY’s day. Three weeks hard labour at a course with very high sand bunkers that you’d never get out of, even with a quad bike.
Your skin will be of a Pink complexion after a brush with Dunaliela salina, the sweet mistress of the links.
I’ll definitely check in at the Pro Shop after making a left hook at the primary school hole.
In some kind of clandestine way, I will report in on conditions upon arrival at the first tee.
Got slapped by the course superintendent earlier this year in January for my course conditions report so I’d better avoid being CaddyShacked.

I have had a lot of Things checked and get checked by my doctor , when I visit .
Do the same and U don't have 2 worry about the big C .
I have quite a few scars , from surfing and a long life AW .
None are very visible , so look , low mileage :)) !

Basesix. I’ve a childhood memory from collecting golf balls, always saw these little metal signs welded to a metal pin.
They were distributed sporadically around the course, often on a slight lean, as a kid I/we didn’t know what the acronym G.U.R. meant, wasn’t until my teens I worked it out.

&pp=ygUIV2lsZGZpcmU%3D We had a lot of rain a month or so ago, so the escarpment slopes aren't too bad. Very dusty, lots of leaf fuel built up, but the canopy is thick and green and is largely keeping it cool and moist underneath. We'll see how long that lasts going into the season.
It's worse over the top of the scarp which has been getting smashed by these dry westerlies.
