Today’s Forecaster Notes are brought to you by Rip Curl

This week and weekend (Dec 7 - 10)

We should see a better increase in mid-period SW swell for later today and more so tomorrow morning, produced by a relatively weak but favourably tracking polar front towards us the last couple of days. This front is now south of us, and we should see fun 4-5ft sets across magnets in the South West tomorrow morning, with tiny 1ft waves continuing to the north.

A ridge moving in from the west will create great conditions with an E/SE offshore out across all locations tomorrow morning ahead of sea breezes, and then straighter out of the E Friday with easing 3ft+ surf across the South West.

A low point in swell is due Saturday morning with good conditions for magnets under and E/NE-NE offshore through the morning.

Our inconsistent and distant SW groundswell due this weekend is still on track, with a distant but strong polar low west of Heard Island generating a fetch of severe-gale winds, with a couple of storm-force barbs picked up by satellite.

This swell is due to build later Saturday, likely reaching 3-5ft by dark across the South West and 1ft in Perth, with a peak Sunday morning to 4-5ft+ and 1ft+ respectively.

Winds for Sunday are still a little divergent, but we're likely to see at least SE winds, if not straight E across the Margaret River region ahead of S/SW sea breezes.

The swell will ease through the day, further back Monday though with less favourable S/SE winds.

Longer term there's still nothing too major on the cards with further weak but persistent frontal activity through the Southern Ocean, stronger than this week. This energy should build through mid-late next week. More on this Friday.
