Features of the Forecast (tl;dr)

  • Easing mid-period W/SW swell tomorrow with light S/SE winds
  • Mix of W/SW groundswell and weak S windswell Wed with strong S/SW winds
  • Weak S windswell and E/SE energy Thu PM-Sat with fresh S/SE-S winds (more variable Fri)

Recap

A rapid drop in size Saturday after kicking up with the wind Friday afternoon with clean, fun easing 2ft sets across Clifton.

Sunday was clean and back to 1-1.5ft ideal for beginners and longer boards. Today a new W/SW swell should have filled in with surf to 2ft and the odd 3ft'er possible this afternoon under favourable winds.

This week and weekend (Jun 8 – 13)

This afternoon's increase in mid-period W/SW swell is due to ease back through tomorrow from the 2ft range, but wind wise, we're due to see a cold front and upper level cold pool moving in from the west, bringing a shallow onshore change at dawn tomorrow.

Winds look light out of the S/SE, increasing a touch through the day but at this stage not really strong until Wednesday. Therefore there should be some OK waves all day.

As we move into Wednesday we'll see strong S/SW winds kick up as the low deepens off the Gippsland coast in Victoria. This low will then be the main driver of the forecast through the end of the week and weekend as it stalls to our north-east and only breaks down and pushes east early next week.

Unfortunately due to the positioning of the low and a ridge of high pressure sitting south of us, there'll be no great swell potential from this low, with very low quality S/SE windswell expected across the South Arm. Some small, mid-period E/SE energy may spread into the more exposed spots down the South Arm Thursday afternoon through Saturday, but keep your expectations low.

Strong SE winds are due in any case on Thursday, more variable out of the SE on Friday, then moderate from the S/SE Saturday and fresh S'ly Sunday.

So unfortunately all in all the outlook is fairly average with nothing of real note for the region. Try the North East coast notes for more options that side.
