Get stuck in over the weekend
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 18th September)
Best Days: Saturday, Sunday, Monday morning
Recap
Onshore surf yesterday with plenty of size easing back from Wednesday while today we've still got 3ft surf and cleaner conditions. A new S/SW swell should have started to show into this afternoon as well.
This weekend and next week (Sep 19 - 25)
There's been no change to the strong pulse of S/SW groundswell due tomorrow morning across the state, with it building later today and peaking to 3-4ft tomorrow morning.
A slight drop in size is due into the afternoon but come Sunday we should still see 2-3ft waves, and our reinforcing pulse of SW groundswell for the afternoon is still on track.
The source of the reinforcing swell is a less than ideally aligned but significant fetch of gale-force NW winds moving in, well south of WA. This should maintain 2-3ft surf, easing Monday from 2ft or so.
Winds will favour selected spots on the weekend, with fresh and gusty N/NE tending NE breeze tomorrow, NE-N/NE all day Sunday.
Monday should see winds change from the N/NE in the morning to the S'th early afternoon with a trough.
Longer term, and as pointed out on Wednesday, we'll see mid-latitude activity start to dominate our swell windows into next week and beyond, resulting in a run of tiny surf. We may see a weak frontal system bringing some windswell late next week, but more on this Monday.
Make the most of the weekend's swell. Have a great weekend!
