Windy, solid swell inbound
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 15th April)
Best Days: Friday, Saturday, Sunday
Recap
Good easing 2-3ft sets yesterday, smaller again and back to 1-2ft today.
This week and weekend (Apr 16 – 19)
A flukey and small SE groundswell should be visible across the South Arm tomorrow morning, generated by an intense but poorly aligned low that formed south of New Zealand Monday afternoon and evening.
Inconsistent 1-2ft sets could be seen across Clifton tomorrow morning from this source, fading through the day under a N/NW tending W'ly breeze.
Of greater importance is the deepening low pressure system south-west of us tomorrow evening.
Ahead of this low, tomorrow a fetch of strong to gale-force W'ly winds are due to be generated through our western swell window, producing a new W'ly swell for Friday morning to 2ft+ or so across Clifton.
Behind this the embedded low is forecast to form, with a fetch of severe-gale W/SW-SW winds due to project east-northeast through our south-western swell window Friday, moving off slowly further east on Saturday.
The timing of the swell from this low has been pushed more back to Saturday with Friday likely not to get much over 3ft into the afternoon along with gusty W/NW winds.
Saturday morning should reveal stronger and larger 4-6ft waves, easing through the day and then down further from 2-3ft Sunday.
Strong W/SW winds will create average conditions on Saturday though, cleaner Sunday and out of the N/NW.
Longer term, some new W/SW swell is on the cards for early-mid next week as a deepening mid-latitude front come low dips south-east from the Bight and intensifies south-west of us. More on this Friday though.
