Fun swell for Tuesday, stronger swell Thursday
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 27th October)
Best Days: Tuesday, Wednesday morning, early Thursday
Recap
Small to tiny surf yesterday and this morning, best suited to bigger boards and beginners.
This weekend and next week (Oct 28 – Nov 3)
While there was still a tiny wave on offer this morning there isn't expected to be any surf at all tomorrow, while a weakening mid-latitude low drifting south-east through our western swell window might generate 1ft of swell Sunday morning (don't count on it).
Moving into next week we've got two swells on the cards, and the second will be much better than the first.
The first will be generated by a very intense low moving in from the west, with it initially being too north of us through its early strong stages. As it starts to weaken through Sunday it will drop south-east, and a fetch of severe-gale W/SW winds will enter our swell window, persisting through Monday morning before moving away from us.
This should generate a fun W/SW tending SW swell for Tuesday coming in at 2ft through the morning, and possibly increasing a little into the afternoon.
Winds on Tuesday look good for most of the day with a light W/NW-NW offshore, tending variable with possible late sea breezes.
The swell will ease back into Wednesday to 1-2ft with an early W/NW wind ahead of a SW change.
Moving into Thursday and our secondary better swell is due to fill in. This will be generated by a deep and intense low forming north of Heard Island tomorrow afternoon, generating a fetch of severe-gale to storm-force W'ly winds as it tracks slowly east-southeast through our western swell window over the coming days. The low will continue closer to us with strength Monday and Tuesday morning before breaking down into the afternoon and evening.
A strong long-period W/SW groundswell should be seen, filling in Thursday morning and offering 3ft+ sets across Clifton, easing a touch later through the day, further from 2-3ft Friday.
Winds are not ideal Thursday with an early W/NW breeze, giving into an onshore change, and then possible W/SW-SW winds Friday. We'll look at this again Monday. Have a great weekend!
