Fun Saturday morning slow until Wednesday
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 30th June)
Best Days: Saturday morning, Wednesday
Recap
A new inconsistent W/SW groundswell yesterday with offshore winds, while today the surf has come up a bit more but conditions are poor.
This weekend and next week (Jul 1 - 7)
The polar front responsible for today's increase in mid-period junky swell is moving off to the east and with this we'll see the swell drop from 2ft tomorrow morning but with offshore N/NW winds.
Make the most of this window though, as the forecast for the rest of the period is slow.
A strong polar frontal progression is currently pushing up towards WA, but this is too far north and out of our swell window. A mid-latitude low fill form and move east across SA and Victoria but not produce any swell generating fetches aimed towards us.
What we do have mid-week is a very long-range and inconsistent W/SW groundswell due, produced by a very strong polar low that's currently west of Heard Island.
This low is producing storm-force W'ly winds and will continue east today and tomorrow while weakening slightly, breaking down south of WA on Sunday.
An inconsistent long-period W/SW groundswell is due off this low, arriving Wednesday morning and building to an inconsistent 2ft on the sets through the day. A morning W/NW wind should create clean conditions ahead of an afternoon W/SW change.
Longer term we may see a flurry of stronger fronts through our swell window late next week/weekend, but more on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
