Best Days: Saturday experienced surfers in protected spots, Sunday morning, Monday protected spots, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday

Recap

Pumping waves Thursday with a good SW groundswell and offshore winds, while today we've fallen in between swells with 2ft waves this morning.

Cape Sorell has since shot right up with some new W/SW groundswell due to reach 4ft at least by dark today.

This weekend and next week (Jun 24 – 30)

This afternoon's swell is the pre-cursor to a much larger W/SW groundswell event due tomorrow.

The direction is looking a little more W/SW than SW now, with the vigorous polar frontal system generating it taking a touch more northerly track while staying a touch west.

Satellite observations have confirmed a fetch of storm-force 50kt winds acting on an active sea state, generating a very large groundswell event for our state.

We should see the swell peak tomorrow morning in the 6ft range across Clifton, much smaller in protected spots with the direction.

An easing trend is due through the day, with Sunday being smaller and more around 3ft+.

Winds tomorrow should be W/NW for a period through the morning, possibly tending W/SW for a period before reverting back to the W/NW into the afternoon.

Sunday morning looks great with a NW offshore, giving into a W/SW change through the afternoon.

This change will be linked to a strong broad polar front projecting towards us, generating a good SW swell for Monday, coming in around the 4ft range but with W/SW winds. There is a slight chance for a W/NW'ly to develop, but you'll have to see how that plays out by reading the local observations on Monday morning.

A slow drop in size is expected through Tuesday with offshore winds, but we've got plenty more swell for the rest of the week owing to persistent strong polar fronts moving through our swell window. More on this Monday. Have a great weekend!

I'm not liking the swell direction. Small I'd say.
