Recap

Tiny waves over the weekend with clean conditions and a bit of weather about yesterday.

A lift in SW groundswell has been seen today, but conditions were average as an intense low move east to the north of us, bringing onshore winds.

This week and weekend (Apr 11 - 16)

Hi everyone, it's good to be back on board after a couple of weeks away overseas.

Onshore winds will persist into tomorrow as the low responsible for today's conditions continues slowly east, strengthening off the southern NSW coast.

This will bring onshore S/SE winds along with small 1-2ft sets left after today.

A good new SW groundswell is due to build into the afternoon though, peaking Wednesday, generated by a strong polar frontal progression that's been moving through the Southern Ocean the last couple of days.

This system is now south-west of us, with the swell from it due to kick tomorrow afternoon to 2-3ft, holding Wednesday around 2-3ft.

Winds will swing back offshore Wednesday, N/NW early, tending N/NE into the afternoon with a bit more east in the wind later. This should provide plenty of options for a full day of surfing.

Thursday will be clean again with a N'ly offshore persisting most of the day and easing 2ft sets.

Later in the week we're not expected to see any new swell until Friday, and that being more so into the afternoon.

Strong frontal activity south-west of WA will be too north in latitude for us initially, but we'll see a slightly better aligned polar front project a fetch of W/SW gales through our western swell window from tomorrow afternoon, into Thursday evening.

The front will cross us Thursday evening, with some weak W/SW windswell for Friday morning to 1-1.5ft or so.

The groundswell should build into the afternoon to 2ft, easing from a similar size Saturday morning. Onshore winds will spoil this swell though, with SW breezes both Friday and Saturday.

Into Sunday we should see winds swing back offshore along with a new long-period SW groundswell. This will be produced by a distant but strong polar low firing up south-southwest of WA and should provide 2ft sets. We'll confirm this Wednesday though.
