Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 8th July)
Best Days:
Recap
A good pulse of initial SW groundswell to 2-3ft yesterday but with less than ideal winds, while today the secondary stronger kick in swell has come in at a good 3-4ft with morning offshores.
This weekend and next week (Jul 9 - 15)
This morning's strong SW groundswell should be easing this afternoon and a further drop from 2ft is expected tomorrow under NW tending variable winds. Sunday is then due to be tiny and fading from 1ft with increasing N/NE winds.
Tiny 0.5-1ft surf, if that is expected to continue through Monday and Tuesday, but later in the day Tuesday we may see an inconsistent new W/SW groundswell from a polar low forming south of WA later Saturday and Sunday morning.
This swell is only due to offer 1-2ft waves by dark as a gusty W/SW change moves through.
Now, the strong cold outbreak occurring to our north-west will out of out swell window until Tuesday morning.
Into Tuesday a polar fetch of S/SW gales will be aimed through our southern swell window, but by the time it arrives Wednesday, some larger SW groundswell will be generated as an elongated fetch of SW gales are projected up and across the state.
This swell should build through Wednesday from 2-3ft through the morning to a larger 4-5ft later in the day, easing back from a similar size Thursday morning.
Onshore SW tending W/SW winds are due Wednesday with better NW winds Thursday. The swell will continue to fade into the end of the week under offshores, with a small reinforcing W/SW swell possible on the weekend but more on this Monday. Have a great weekend!
