Fun Friday, large swell next week
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Wednesday 6th July)
Best Days: Friday morning, Saturday morning, Wednesday
Recap
Poor onshore waves the last couple of days and not that inviting at all.
This week and weekend (Jul 7 - 10)
Our good pulses of SW groundswell are tracking along really nicely with a couple of strong polar frontal systems passing through our swell window the last few days. The best system generated a great fetch of gale to severe-gale W'ly winds, and this will produce Friday morning's SW groundswell.
Tomorrow's first pulse will be really inconsistent but should offer 2ft to occasionally 3ft sets but with average S/SE winds.
Friday's swell is looking to be a better 3ft and with better N/NW tending NE winds.
Into the weekend we should see fading surf from 1-2ft under N/NW tending fresh N/NE winds, tiny Sunday.
Next week onwards (Jul 11 onwards)
We've got a large strong W/SW tending SW groundswell event due Tuesday and Wednesday next week, produced by a very strong cold outbreak across the south-east of the country.
This will be related to a strengthening node of the Long Wave Trough moving across early next week, directing strong stormy activity into South Australia and Victoria Sunday/Monday but too far north for us.
Into Monday evening and Tuesday though a broad fetch of gale to severe-gale S/SW winds will be generated through our swell winow.
The structure is still a little unsure but we'll likely see a late kick Tuesday to 4-5ft, easing from a similar sized Wednesday under W/NW winds. More on this Friday though.
