Onshore winds until Friday
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Monday 4th July)
Best Days: Friday away from Clifton, Saturday
Recap
Fun levels of swell all weekend with 2ft surf for the most part with offshore winds.
Today a new long-range W/SW groundswell has filled in with good 2-3ft sets but along with onshore winds.
This week and weekend (Jul 5 - 10)
We've got poor conditions ahead for the coming days as a deepening low pressure system off the East Coast stalls, directing fresh to strong E/SE tending SE winds into the South Arm tomorrow. Winds will remain from the S/SE Wednesday and Thursday, continuing to create poor conditions.
Today's swell is due to ease from the 2ft range tomorrow morning, even smaller into Wednesday morning.
Two pulses of good SW groundswell are due Thursday and Friday, produced by back to back polar fronts/lows skirting along the polar shelf.
The second swell looks to be a touch bigger and more consistent than the first, but only slightly.
The first swell should peak Thursday morning to an inconsistent 2ft to maybe 3ft across Clifton, with the secondary pulse for Friday morning coming in at a more noticeable 2-3ft.
Remember though, winds will remain onshore Thursday with slightly better but less than ideal E/NE tending NE winds Friday. The swell will ease through the day though, with fading 1-2ft sets Saturday under N'ly winds.
Longer term, there's nothing significant on the cards until around Tuesday next week when we should see a strong polar outbreak pushing up and across the state. This will kick up at least moderate amounts of swell, but more on this Wednesday.
