Tiny weekend, better from Wednesday next week
Southern Tasmania Surf Forecast by Craig Brokensha (issued Friday 19th December)
Best Days: Monday for beginners, Wednesday onwards
Recap
After Wednesday's fun pulse of swell there's been nothing to really get excited about with tiny 1-1.5ft waves yesterday morning, even smaller today.
This weekend and next week (Dec 20 - 26)
Tomorrow should remain tiny with no new swell due and our small spike in S/SW swell due Sunday unfortunately doesn't look to eventuate with the deepening low that was going to move under us, not due to form any more. As a result the surf will remain tiny and in the 1ft range Sunday under N/NW tending W/NW winds.
A weak front pushing in Sunday evening is due to bring with it a slight kick in W/SW swell Monday but the size doesn't look that special at all with only a weak 1-1.5ft wave due. Conditions will be great for beginners though with a morning N/NW'ly before E/SE sea breezes kick in.
From Wednesday onwards we should see some better W/SW groundswell energy impacting the South Arm as a series of broad but not overly strong polar fronts fire up to the south-west and south of WA. The track of each system won't be perfect, any more aimed up towards the Bight and SA/Vic but we should see inconsistent levels of W/SW swell arriving from Wednesday to 1-2ft, building later to a more consistent 2ft and holding Thursday ahead of a secondary similar sized 2ft pulse for Friday. A drop is then due into the afternoon and further into the weekend.
Winds look to be generally favourable and from the NW each morning and SW into the afternoons, but we'll confirm this Monday.
Longer term the Southern Ocean looks to fire up with more vigour later next week and through the weekend with some possible medium sized swells on the cards. More on this Monday though. Have a great weekend!
