Southern Tasmania Forecast (issued Wednesday 10th September)

Best Days: Thursday afternoon for keen surfers, Friday, Saturday

Recap

The surf bottomed out yesterday, but a tiny increase in acute W'ly swell was seen this morning to 1-1.5ft, as expected.

This week and weekend (Sep 11 - 14)

Tomorrow's strong increase in W/SW groundswell is still on track, with the vigorous polar frontal progression generating it currently passing south of the Bight. A weakening fetch of severe-gale W/SW winds are being generated in our western swell window with the front expected to move across us through tomorrow morning.

A strong W/SW groundswell should follow, with a small clean 2ft wave through the morning across Clifton under W/NW winds expected to build to 3-4ft into the afternoon as winds swing W/SW in the wake of the front.

Friday is the pick of the swell as a reinforcing W/SW groundswell moves in, softening the easing trend with Clifton expected to offer 3ft+ waves most of the morning before backing off to 2-3ft into the afternoon and further from 2ft Saturday.

Winds should be good all day Friday and from the NW tending W/NW, while Saturday should see NW tending W'ly winds.

Come Sunday there's not expected to be much in the way of swell, with small 1-2ft waves due across the coast with an early W'ly before a SW change moves through.

Next week onwards (Sep 15 onwards)

A small increase in SW swell is due Monday across the region but with less than ideal winds, and by the time winds go favourable Tuesday, the swell will be easing from 1-2ft.

Longer term we may see a better polar front project up and into us later next week kicking up a S'ly windswell but more on this Friday.
