South Australian Forecast (issued Friday 11th December)

Best Days: Saturday for keen surfers on the Mid, Sunday down South, Monday morning keen surfers at swell magnets down South

Recap

The Mid's good kick in swell Wednesday held in above expectations yesterday morning with clean 2ft sets under offshore winds. The South Coast was also offering great waves with a new swell to a good 3ft across the Middleton stretch under morning offshores.

An afternoon onshore change created poor conditions after lunch, while today a short-lived W'ly was seen around Victor as the swell held in at a decent size. The Mid Coast was back to the tiny and sloppy 1ft range with the onshore wind. Stronger onshores have since developed across both coasts creating poor conditions.

This weekend and next week (Dec 12 - 18)

South Coast: Later today a new SW groundswell is due to push into both coasts, peaking through tomorrow. This has been generated the last few days but a relatively weak but persistent and favourably tracking cold front up towards us.

Today's onshore winds are linked to this passing front, with the swell expected to peak tomorrow morning to 3-4ft at Middleton and 5ft at Waits and Parsons.

Onshore winds are expected to ease considerably into tomorrow morning, likely tending variable, but conditions will still be mixed from the overnight southerlies. Mid-late morning will likely produce the best waves as conditions sort themselves out a little ahead of developing sea breezes.

Sunday looks fun with a light offshore N/NE'ly and easing S/SW swell from 2-3ft across the Middleton stretch and 3ft to possibly 4ft at Waits and Parsons.

Into Monday only small leftovers are due to 1-2ft at Middleton with 2ft+ sets at Waits under morning E/NE winds (not the best combo).

Unfortunately there's nothing significant due for the rest of the week with a junky and weak S/SE windswell developing into Tuesday and Wednesday with fresh to strong onshore winds.

Longer term we may see some new SW groundswell into next weekend with favourable winds, but more on this Monday.

Mid Coast: The SW change and SW swell due tomorrow are expected to peak around 1-1.5ft with the possibility for the odd 2ft bomb during the day, and winds will be favourable and from the SE during the morning.

Fading levels of swell from 1ft or so are then due Sunday under offshore breezes.

Into next week there's nothing significant at all besides pulses of SW swell to 0.5ft or so and with S/SE winds. Therefore make the most of tomorrow and check back here Monday for the latest update. Have a great weekend!
