Good South Coast Thursday and again Sunday morning
South Australian Forecast (issued Wednesday 9th December)
Best Days: Thursday morning both coasts (best down South), Sunday morning down South, early Monday down South
Recap
Clean conditions down South yesterday but with no decent swell, while the Mid Coast saw an average building windswell.
Today a better acute W/SW swell pulse has built from a bumpy 1-1.5ft this morning to a better 2ft this afternoon as onshore winds eased, opening up good options on the Mid. The South Coast was also clean this morning but small, with more size this afternoon but average conditions.
This week and weekend (Dec 10 - 13)
South Coast: A building W/SW swell this afternoon will veer to the S/SW through tomorrow and offer more size, generated by a strengthening mid-latitude low to our south-west today.
This low has now moved out of our swell window with the swell from it due to push up into us tomorrow, peaking to 3ft at Middleton with sets in the 4ft range at Waits and Parsons.
Conditions will be excellent with light offshore winds from the N/NW, tending more W/NW through the morning and then W/SW through the afternoon.
A drop in size is due into Friday morning with poor and fresh W/SW-SW winds, and only the slimmest chance of an early W'ly around Victor.
This onshore change however will be linked to a relatively weak but persistent front pushing up into us from the west-southwest, bringing a new pulse of swell later in the day, peaking Saturday morning.
3-4ft sets are due at Middleton with 5ft waves at Waits and Parsons, but winds will unfortunately still be onshore from the S/SW, easing through the morning creating workable conditions late morning through the early afternoon for keen surfers.'
Otherwise Sunday will be much better with easing 3ft sets at Middleton with 4ft sets at Waits and Parsons under N/NE offshores ahead of afternoon sea breezes.
Mid Coast: Today's good pulse of W/SW swell is due to fade fairly quickly through tomorrow, but early there should still be 1-1.5ft sets with clean conditions under variable winds before onshores kick in.
Friday is due to start tiny, but a late kick in new swell from the approaching front is expected to maybe 1ft or so. Come Saturday when the swell peaks there isn't due to be much size, with inconsistent 1-1.5ft sets likely, fading through Sunday from 1ft+.
Next week onwards (Dec 14 onwards)
South Coast: There's nothing significant due into early next week as the weekend's swell continues to ease along with hopefully variable winds Monday morning, and then poor S'ly winds from the afternoon onwards through the rest of the week.
The Mid Coast won't see any decent size, but tiny 1ft sets are likely to ebb and pulse all week from weak frontal activity. More on this Friday.
Comments
Great waves across the Mid this morning, above forecast expectations.
