  • Light W to NW winds through the week

  • Quiet start to next week, possible NE windswell mid next week

Recap

A nice S swell pulse Sat with size in the 2-3ft range at S facing beaches, smaller Sun AM before building again in the a’noon. Today has seen more S swell with some strong lines to 3-4ft on as building trend at S facing beaches and a SW flow which has tended variable/N’ly in the a’noon.

This week and next (Sep11 - Sep22)

A big dominant high (1032hPa) is sitting over SE Australia, with a series of powerful fronts passing well to the south and the progression slowed in New Zealand longitudes. The high is slow moving, with a light W’ly ridge across Tasmania. We’ll see pulses of S’ly groundswell this week from the deep fetches located in the Far Southern Tasman.

In the short run and we’ll see todays pulse wind back a notch to 2-3ft with another pulse to 3ft filling in during the day under light offshore winds tending variable in the day.

Similar winds Wed with a morning peak in size to 3-4ft, easing during the day. Should be plenty of fun waves at S facing beaches.

Variable winds for Thurs as a trough lingers off the NE Coast, with winds tending NE in the a’noon. A last pulse of S swell from the series supplies some 3ft sets at S facing beaches.

Nothing much Fri with just small leftovers, tending to tiny NE windswell as winds tend N’ly then NW as a front approaches.

Into the weekend and the fetch of N’ly winds off the South Coast of NSW should generate some workable NE windswell for Sat, easing into Sun with winds tending NW Sat and W’ly on Sun.

Looks like a small start to next week with minor levels of NE windswell and some small E/NE swell filtering down from a fetch in the Northern Tasman.

By Tues we may see some bigger NE windswell start to develop, peaking Wed.

Thats a long way off and subject to low confidence so we’ll see how it looks on Wed.

Seeya then.
